The manager of the Punxsutawnoy
Fair Association have decided that no
more concessions to fortune wheals,
games of chance or "coochoe-coochoo"

Indeed, for whatever reasons the
-management had for permitting those
things on the ground, there was a grow

The managers of the Indiana fair per
mits nothing of the kind on the grounds,
and no fakirs of any kind were seen on

THE STATEGRANGE.
J. T. Allmsn, Press Correspondent.
Pennsylvania was honored In having
Worthy State Master W. F. II1U called
to Michigan to speak at grango picnics
for a week or more. Ho reports some
70 picnics huld In that state under the
auspices of the State Grango. llo found
large and appreciative audiences whore
ever he went. Michigan Is ono of the
strong grange states, strong In numbers
and in the thoroughness ol hor organi
sation and in tho elllclency of the work
they do.
The Importance of education for tho
farmer Is fully realized by the leaders
of the grango. Ia the past our agri
cultural schools and colleges have given
most of their attention to educating In
tho line of the professions. The grange
has long demanded that these institu
tions give agriculturo due attention'.
This demand is being heeded. With
the completion of the buildings now in
process of erection at lVnn'a State
College and at Cornell University at
Ithica, N. Y., full facilities will have
been provided for the youth of these
states. Professors, 'well qualified for
tho duties, are already at work. We
look for farming to take a higher place
as a vocation and the farmer to take a
Btep In advance as a man and a citizen.
Already summer Is on the vane and
tho shadows of evonlng fall earlier.
What priceless opportunities are afford
ed by winter evenings on the farm.
Yet how sadly these opportunities are
often neglected. Those parents who
got their children regularly to school
and take thorn no less regularly to
church and to grange meetings, pro
viding them at home with good books
and good papers, can I00K with con
fidence to their future.
Great interest is alroady being felt In
the meetings of Penn'a State Grango to
be held in Erio in Dcccmbor. Tho live
patrons of Erlo and adjacont counties
will leave nothing undone to mnko the
mooting a success. Owing to tho largo
Increase in membership during the
year and tho general interest every
where it promisos to bo the largest
meeting tho State grango ever bold.
