THE HOME
Paper Read by Mrs. A. J. Sprngue, nf
Desire, Pa., al Farmers' Institute Re
cently held hy Paradise Grange.
When two people, unite their destines
for life their first move) is to establish a
homo. Homo Is the rrmlle of tho nation
and some of our very Hiniirtest and lett
men lmveeomo from the farm homo, so
that If thero Is any one home above
another that should bo tiiiulo attract
ive it is the farmer's homo. This may
at first appear to bo a very simple
question and ono easily answered. Wo
nro ready to say, if I had lots of money
I could soon muko my home attractive.
You mitrht fill your house with
olegant furniture and costly draperies,
but think you that would bo nUriietive.
to your boys if every time they came
into one of the elegantly furnished
rooms they were ndmonlshed to be care
ful and not break or disarrange any
thing ? Our homes are a sort of king
dom ; wo are the rulers nnd on im
devolves tho responsibility of making
that kingdom attractive or othernl-o.
I''lrt wo must make It ns good to look
at an possible with the facilities at
hand. Tho sensi? of sight is perhaps
the one wo are the most, apt M indulge
but we should bo careful and not sacri
fice looks to comfort.
Home Is where tho coming men and
women rccelvo their first and, conse
quently, their most lasting impressions
hence we ought to mnko It a school and
teach oach their responsibility in mak
ing homo attractive, for what, homo
would bo attractive or even endurable
If each member did not work In unison.
Another necessary element in making
home attractive Is different diversions.
Nearly all children and young pooplo
love to read. As soon as most children
learn to distinguish ono letter from
anothor they begin to rend and It Is
most necessary that we see to it t':it
proper bonks and periodicals are put In
their way. Many a boy can ditto . iN
downward tendency to trashy litcratu . e.
A great amount, of innocent ainu e
ment may be gotten out of tho harmless
games that may bo enjoyed at homo.
Ol these thero are an endless variety so
that each may suit their own tastes.
True tho farmer and his family may
not have as much timo for ircrcatton
as some other professions but ho can
onjoy what ho has with tho better zest.
Then let us, as tho heads of farmers'
homes, make them so attractive that
tho boys and girls as they go out in tho
world may look back to thoir homo as
the most attractive place in tho world.
