" The Record " in Ettor.
Out neighbor, I1ie liccordot Brock
way vlllu, calls attention to an error In
The ST AH lant week about John Bat
tlta Alollo's first degree Verdict being
tho first verdict of first degree murder
In Jitflorsiin county since Chas. Chase
was convicted and hung. We acknowl
edge tho error, and stand oorrocted.
Just to show In a friendly spirit that 1
Is possible for The Uenml to err occasion
ally, we rail attention to an article that
appeared In that paper last weok con
cerning tho Chase murder case. Thr.
llrnml suld that Mrs. Botty McDonald
was murdered In tho lleeeh woods on tho
night of February lit, 187(1, the crim
inals spilt hor head open with a
hatehut, killing her almost Instantly,
that Chnse was arrested atRldgway the
next day, tried and convicted, and
hanjjed August 28, 1870. About the
only correct part of the above statement
is that Mrs. Bottj McDonald was mur
dered In Beech woods and that Chase
was hung for the orlmo. The murder
occurred on the night of February 19,
18(17, not 1870; tho murderers used a
maul, not a hntchot; Chase was arrested
near Brnckway vllle, not Rldgway, and
was hung August 28, J8(17, not 1870.
