'''' ''''i'-'4.' pom it mm View ok the New Indi'stry from the South Side ONE OF THE NEW nnd Important industries in Rcynolclsville is the Reynoldsville Clay Man ulactutinK Company plant. It is now in operation, giving employment to twenty men, and as soon as more kilns are built the force will be doubled. The plant was started with one kiln so that the comnanv could manufacture their own brick to build all the kilns necessary. Six more kilns will be built this summer. When completed there will be ten kilns altogether. The plant is located 100 feet south of the Star Glass Company plant. It is equipped (or the manufacture of paving or building brick, red or bulT, hollow block tile and pottery. The brick de partment is GO x 109 feet, nnd has a dry house in addition, which will dry 20,000 brick in from 24 to 30 hours. Two large boilers of 12"i-horse power each and n l.r0-horse power automatic engine furnishes power for the plant. The latest improved machinery has lie'en bought for the plant t nd it has a capacity for making from 25,000 to 40,000 brick per day. There is one large dry pan for grinding clay, which passes the clay from pan up a 44-foot elevator and then down over n screen to a large 13-loot pug mill which prepares the clay for the brick machine. This machine forms the clay into a solid column, passing it on to the automatic cutting table where 1G brick are cut at one time or at the rate of 50 to GO brick per minute. The pottery is equipped with one large 9-foot wet pan which grinds the clay ready for the pot ter. There is also two turning wheels and one julley wheel on large dryer and two large glazing tubs. This department has the latest improved and best obtainable machinery for the manufacture of Bristol glazed stoneware, which consists of butter pots, stew pans, bean pot, fruit jars, jugs, milk pans, cuspidors and many other useful articles. The clay for this plant is hauled from Wishaw over the R. & F. C. R'y. There is n gang of men working at the clay bank at Wishaw. G. W. Arblaster, superintendent of the Reynoldsville Clay Manufacturing Company plant, is a practical brick and pottery worker, having had a long and varied experience in that line of work The officers and directors of this company are responsible and capable men, as follows ; M.
