Four Persons Burned To Death.
A terrible calamity befell the family
of John Eshbaugh, who resides near
Shannondalu, in Rod Bank township,
Clarion county, on Friday morning of
last week. Mr. Eshbaugh got up about
three o'clock In the morning and
made a fire In the cook stove, going
back to bed again. About an hour
later he awoke and found the bouse on
fire, the flames having gained consider
able headway. Besides himself, his
wife, his brother, and six children wore
sleeping up stairs. He tried to awakon
them and get them out of the building,
but with only partial success, as the
house burned so rapidly. Mrs. Esh
baugh escaped through a window, with
two small children, and one about seven
or eight years of age, the latter serious
ly burned. Mrs. Eshbaugh In jumping
from the window, through which she
escaped, broke one of her legs above the
ankle.
Mr. Eshbaugh's brother, aged about
25 years, and three children, aged nine,
ten and twelve years, perished In the
building, It being Impossible to rescue
them. Everything in the house was
burned, Including all the clothing of the
family. The condition of the rescued
ones was pitiable, exposed as they were
to the extreme cold. Mr. Eshbaugh
tried to keep thorn warm by piling
hay find straw about them, and cover
ing thorn with grain sacks. It was
some time before holp could be secured,
as the nearest neighbor was a mile dis
tant. At soon as help arrived all the sur
vivors were taken to a neighbor's house
where they were properly cared for,
and medical holp sent for. It was the
saddest accident that has ever hap
pened In that neighborhood. Brook

Lively College Boys In Frolic.
Lyman H. Hove's moving picture en
tertainment this season Is assuredly
one of the most attractive of all It
brilliant predecessors. Mr. Howe bas
spared no expense in securing some of
the most attractive and marvellous pro-'
ducts of the camera, both In this coun
try and on the other side of the sea, pre
sented In a manner that reveals the
wonderful improvement that has over
come that trembling motion which tires
the eyes. All the pictures are new.
Among them being one showing a lot
of frisky collego boys, 75 or 100 of them,
In an exciting paper chase, which Is
really the old game of "follow your
leador." The boys leap from high '
places, tumble Into all sorts of queer
spots, jump Into ponds and Indulge In
other exciting antics. It is an exceed
ingly interesting picture, and delights
all who soe it, especially the young peo
ple. The Howe pictures will bo soon
at Assembly hall on Thursday evening,
January 16th.
