charged with theft of It.
"The ease was about to b enlled
when 1 arrived, nnd I asked for a lit
tle time in which to consult with my
client. This wax granted, nnd taking
him to one aide I said:
"Now. see here, the best thing thnt
yon can do I to mnke a clean breast
of the affair to me, and then I will
know Just where 1 stand. Whatever
you may confess to tne I will treat as
sacredly confidential, and I will do my
best to clear you.'

the prisoner.
' 'Then where did you get the car

"Then I remembered thnt Just before

chief. "What was the matter? 1 gave
