the Republican nomination for District
Attorney, Is making an aggressive cam

his aspiration, as there seems to be a
very strong feeling among the Repub

A horse hitched to an empty wagon,
belonging to tbe Reynoldsville Hard
ware Co., occasioned a little excitement
Monday morning by taking a short run
of Us own accord. It was left In tbe
alley at the side door, of the store and
ran down the alley across Main and
Jackson streets, stopping when It
reached tho swamps near the R. & F.
C. R'y.
New Schedule.
A new schedule went Into effect on
tho A. V. R'y Sunday. Tho time of
trains at this placo will be found under
the heading "travelers' guide" on this
page.
Two Initiated.
Two new mcmlHTs, both doctors, were
Initiated Into Elk lodge last Thursday
evening. After the Initiation s banquet
was held In the Elk rooms. Twenty
visitors from the Dullols lodge wero
present.
Electric Lights.
The electric light lamps were shipped
from the factory In New York lat, Sat
urday, May ll'lili, and should arrive
here sometime the latter part of this
week. Mr. Fcrrln said yesterday that
he expects to hnve the street lights In
operation by the latter part of next
week.
Had to Kill the Cow,

able Jersey cow one day last week. The
cow, wl led was bought recently, was
tol her' I near Mr. Sykes' residence and
two or ibree dogs ran by barking anil
frightened the cow and she got tangled

Fell Down Stairs.
Mrs. ,f. H. Sweit.er. who Is nt present
staying with her son, (trlerO. Swell.er,
one of the proprietors of Hotel Imperial,
fell down the hack stairs nt the hotel
Wednesday evening and narrowly es
rapod serious Injury. She received one
cut on head that required several
stitches to sew up. Mrs. Swolt.er
tripped nt top step and fell to bottom of
stairs.

The Reynoldsville ball club will play

Eclipse of the Sun.
The eclipse of the sun Momlny morn
ing attracted considerable attention in
Reytioldsvlllo. Smoked glass and col
ored spectacles were much In use. Tlio
eclipse was nearly total. The visible
portion of tho sun at greatest olHcura
tion was like a thin crescent, ills in t sl.o
of new moon. Astronomers say tho
present generat ion will passuway before
another eclipse so near total will bo
noted.
Two Night Trains.
New schedules went Into effect on tho
11., R. tt P. nnd 1'. & E. railroads Sun
day, but we did not receive schedules in
time to make the corrections this week,
and for that reason the time tables will
not bo found In this issue of TlIK STAR.
However, there is no change In time of
tho I)., R. & 1', trains at this place.
Train arrives at 1.20 p. m. and leaves at
2.1!0 p. in. Two new "flyers" have boen
put on the 11., R. &, )'. between Pitts
burg and Buffalo. Tho new train from
Pittsburg arrives at Fulls Creek nt 2.22
a. m. and tho ono for Pittsburg at .1.00
a. m.
Rough Riders.
Capt. Shnrpo and his company of
Rough Riders, now with tho great
Rhoda Royal Shows, must not bo com
pared with any of tho so-called Rough
Riders exhibiting throughout tho coun
try. Eyury member of Capt. Sburpe's
company served under "Teddy" .Risjse
velt in the Spanish war, and participated
in that memorable charge at Shn Juan.
They all hold their honorable discharge
from tho nth U. S. Cavalry. The drills,
mounts, riding and vaulting of these
sturdy soldier boys is a sight novor soon
before with any amusement enterprise.

Large Funeral.
Alexander Mcintosh, jr., agod 32
years, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander
Mcintosh of Rathmel, died at that
place Saturday. He had been 111 for
some time. The deceased was a mem
ber of tho Rathmel Knights of Pythias
lodge and the Golden Eagle lodge of
Reynoldsville and was In good standing
In both lodges. Funeral services wore
hold at the resldonce of parents Monday
afternoon, oonduoted by Rov. Chlsholm,
Presbyterian pastor at Rathmel. The
two lodges attended tbe funeral, which
was very large. Eighty mombers of
the Goldun Eagle were in the funeral
cortege. Remains were burled In Bou
lab cemetery.
Memorial Services.
A large congregation attended the
union memorial services In the Presby
terian church Sunday morning. The
auditorium was not large enough to ac
commodate the people and tbe chapel
was thrown open. Rev. W. Frank
Rober, pastor of tbe Presbyterian
church, preached the memorial sermon,
and Rev. Porry A. Reno, pastor M. E.
church, and Dr. A. J. Meek, pastor
Baptist church, assisted In the services.
The old veterans and Sons of Veterans
attended in a body. Rev. Reber select
ed the following text for this occasion:
"If the Son therefore shall make you
free, ye shall be free indeed." The
sormon was exoollont and was listened
to attentively.

First Reunion District of Knights

of Indiana, Clarion, Jefferson, Elk

Mrs. Joseph L. Cable died nt her
home near Dig Soldier nt ft.OO p. in.,
Thursday, May 24th. She had been
ailing with Height's disense for some
time nnd Sunday afternoon shn had n
stroke of paralysis, which resulted in
her death. Her maiden mono was Anna
Campbell. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
John T. Camplx-ll, of l,oatliorwood.
Clarion county. She was born at Cool
Spring, Jefferson county, August 20,
1X71, making ber 2.1 years, II months and
4 days old at time of death. She was
married to Joseph L. Cable nt Clarion,
April l.-ith, IK1I7, by Rev. Wm. E. Hook
er, pastor oftho Evangelical Lutheran
church, of which denomination the de
ceased was a memlier. They began
housekeeping In Koynolilsv'illo Hnd
lived here until Inst month, therefore,
Mrs. Cable hnd many friends In town.
Remains were taken to I .eat her wood
Friday evening and buried in Squirrel
Hill cemetery at 10.00 a. m. Saturday.
Deceased was the mother of two chil
dren who died in Infancy.

the church a largo crowd assembled to
witness the same. A wedding dinner
was served at 7.00 p. m. at residence of
bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas
Black, on First street, to which only a

of building next to Hotel McConnoll.

At Punxs'y Next Year.
The tenth annual convention of tho
Jefferson County Sunday School Asso
ciation held In the M. E. church at
Brookvillo lust Wednesday and Thurs
day, was the largest and most interest
ing convention ever held In the county,
If all roHrta be correct. The topics
wore all handled in an able manner,
making the convention proli table to all
those really interested In Sunday school
work. Tho delegates sHiak very highly
of the hospitality of tho Brookvillo
people. Tho convention will be held at
Punxsutawney next year.
The Keystone Is a "Dandy."
The Keystone band was playing on
Main street last evening. Our towns
people can feel proud of the Keystone,
as It Is an exoollont band. One of the
selections played lust evening was their
contest pteco, "Nabuoodonosor.'' The
boys play It very nicely.
Died Yesterday.
Mrs. Mary Hanna, aged about seventy
years, died at the home of "Jack"
Whittaker, In West Reynoldsville, yes
terday afternoon. Heart trouble was
the cause of death. Mrs. Hanna lived
in the "Old Sandy Lick" a few years,
where her husband died.

Boyer, foil off a horse Sunday afternoon,
striking the back of his bead on the
ground with force sufficient to produce
concussion of the brain.

I Action of Borough "Dads" Concerning
Electric Light Compsny s Contract.
A special meeting of the town council
was held Wednesday, May 22, 1 1 mo, for
the purpose of taking such action on
the contract with E. A. Fjrrlu, bis suc
cessors or assigns, or the Rtiynoldsvillo
Electric Co., to furnish lights to the
borough as shall ho decided upon, said
action shall bo taken upon tbe failure
to have said lights turned on within
six months from date of said contract
and ordinance, il(l lights not being
hung over winter of streets mid not hav
ing Inuui placed under tho direction of
street committee.
On motion the following resolution
was passed.

journed. Contract for Five Water Plugs.
The West Reynoldhvlllo town council
met in special session May 2.'lrd with all
the members In attendance.
Tho object of tho meeting was to
consider and authorize a contract for
water for fire protection, and to levy a
tax for tbe support of tho same.
A contract was authorized with the
Reynoldsville Wutor Company for five
water plugs for a term of two years
to bo located on present line, as follows:
ono at intersection of l'ike and Broad
way streets, near Mooro House: ono at
intersection of Brown and Warner
streets; one at intersection of Ohio and
Brown streets, at Dompsoy's corner;
and including two now in use at the
tannery, one of tho latter to bo moved
west to Ward's alley.
A tax of ono mill was levied for the
support of tho samo.
Time Limit Removed.
By a vote of 4.'l.'l to 2.'1H the Mothodlst
General Conference at Chicago last
Thursday abolished the timo limit of
pustorates, thus Anally disposing of one
of the most Important questions before
the body and doing away with one of
tho fundamental features of the denomi
nation. Hereafter preachers will be
appointed annually by tho Bishops, with
no limit on tho number of years a pas
tor may servo one congregation.

Hospital Physician.
Dr. Howard L. Kaucher, of this place,
who recently graduated from the Medi-co-Cbirurgical
College of Philadelphia,
was elected Monday as a resident phy
sician of tbe Harrisburg Hospital. Dr.
Kaucher will accompany bis mother,
Mrs.M. H. Kaucher, to this place this
