The resolutions as passed by both
houses of Congress uflor ono o'clock
yesterday morning are as follows:
"A joint resolution for tho recogni
tion of the Independence of Cuba, do
limniling that the government of Spain
relinquish Its authority and government
on the island of Cuba, mid to withdraw
Its hind and naval forces from Cuba and
( Julian waters, and dip-etiiisj tlio Presi
dent of the United Slates to carry
these resolutions Into effect.
" Win ri 11.1, The abhorrent condi
tions which have existed for inure than
thrcu years in the Island of Culm, so
near our own borders, have shocked the
moral sense of tho people of the United
States, have Is-en a disgrace to Chris
tian civilization, culminating, as they
have, In tho destruction of a United
States battleship, with 2m ot Its olllcers
and crew, while on a friendly visit In
tho harbor of Havana, and cannot
longer bo endured, as has been set forth
by tho President of tho United States

of Representatives of the United States
of America in Congress assembled,
"First That tho people of tho Island
lire, and of right ought to bo, froo and

"Seeond That it Is the duty of tho
United Stales tn demand, and tho gov
ernment of the United SlnUs does here
by demand, that the government of
Spain at eno ' relinquish lis authority
and government tn the Island of Cuba,
and withdraw its hind and naval forces
from Cuba and Cuban waters.
"Third -That, tho President of tho
United Slates bo and hn hereby Is di
rected and empowered to use the entire
land and naval forces of the United
States and to call In to the actual servtco
of the United States tho militia of the
several States to such extent as may bo
necessary to carry theso resolutions
Into effect.
"Fourth That the United States
hereby disclaims any disposition or in
tention to exercise sovereignty, juris
diction or control ovor suid Island ex
cept for the pacification thereof, and
asserts its determination when that Is

' Saturday Drow Courtney, aged about
five years, son of Ed. Courtney, while
playing on the tram railroad at the mill,
fell off tho trestle to the ground, a dis
tance of fourteen feet, and wag knocked
unconscious. His father ran and picked
hlra up and carried him home. When
the father reached the bouse the boy
returned to consciousness and asked
what was tho matter, and began laugh
ing. Monday afternoon P. F. Griffon aud
F. P. Strlcklund were engaged in haul
ing greon lumber over un old tram
road In the mill yard and the trestle
gave away and these two gentlemen
had to make a despurato leap for their
lives, otherwise they would have been
crushed to death under tho wreckage.
James F. King is in Lock Haven this
week spending a few duys with his
family.
