Lucky Runaway.
A young horse owned by Thos.
Tapper, the liveryman, raised some
excitement for a few minutes Saturday
forenoon by running down Main street
at a reckless speed with a now buggy
attached to It. Several unsuccessful
attempts wore mode to stop the animal.
Whom the horse turned In off Main
street to Tapper's stable Its front feet
slipped from under it and the horse fell
and slid down the small embankment
without doing injury to Itself or damag
ing tho buggy. What the result would
havo been had tho horso not fallen can
only be conjectured. An employee of
tho livery stable had the horse out
driving It for exorcise and in making a
turn on East Main street the driver
was thrown out of the buggy and the
horse ran to the barn.
It is a very unwise act to try to stop a
runaway horse by throwing a hat in
front of it, as was done Saturday morn
ing, and is often done under similar
oli'cumstancus.

Court of Equity.
An Important case is being heard
this week by Judge Geo. S. Cresswell,
of Franklin, Pa., who Is here to relieve
Judge Reed because of his interest In
the ease as counsel. It Is equity pro
ceedings to prove tltlo and secure pos
session of the chnreh property of tho
Evangelical Association, and In which
the present pastors nnd official members
are respondents. Presiding Elder J.
W. Homer, of the Allegheny district,
and Presiding Elder B. F. Felt, of the
Franklin district, and Revs. S. Mllllron,
L. J. Bomgardner, D. J. Herschberger
and J. M. Weaver are here In tho Inter
est of the congregations now using the
property In question as places of public
worship. Tho plaintiffs claim the prop
erty on a technicality, a division In the
church giving them possibly a legal
claim, but not one In equity, and It
appears In the raes now being beard
that a great wrong is bolng attempted
against a considerable portion of the
wople In several communities. There
are four church proorties In this coun
ty Involved, that of Mount Carniet, at
North Freedom, the church at Heath
ville, that at Brookvlllo, and that at
Worthvlllo, Rev. B.B.Pell.the plaintiff,
appearing in each separate ease as pas
tor of sold churches. Means and Clark,
assisted by E. B. Esher, of Chicago,
represent the plaintiffs, and Geo. A.
Jenks, Esq., the defendants. A large
number of witnesses are present to tes
tify as to their knowledge of the facts
relative to the title to tho several prop
erties. Brookvlllo Jiepuhlienn.
Somebody Lied.
On Monday Amos St rouse, of McC'nl-
mont township, was seriously Injured by
limb of a troo falling upon him. Ills
skull was cracked. He was passing
through the woods on his way home
from Clark, Klser & Kipp's sawmill
when tho limb fell on him. He lay un
conscious for a long tlmo and when he
recovered he managed to walk to the
railroad track where passing workmen
found him. He was conveyed to his
home and is lying in a precarious con
dition. Punxsutawney jr.
The above Is a sample of how some
people lie to newspapor men. While
Mr. Strouso was working In the woods
near his mill a limb of a tree fell on his
left arm and bruised it badly, but he re
sumed his work in ten minutes after
wards. Mr. Strouso was In Roynolds
vllle Saturday and was surprised when
the JVnr Item was read to him. The
itoirs did not intentionally almost
kill Mr. Strouse, it was the editor's
informant.
