William King, the negro who linn two hearts ami is able to control the pulsations of cither nt will.-nnd who occasionally excites the medical ussoelti tlons of the Atluntio const by making an exhibition of himself, hits Imioii ix amined by Dr. C. A. Jnckmm of Pitts bnrg, who reports as follows: "The mini 1ms two distinct "honrts, connected only by tho larger IiI'hhI ves sels and a very elastic pericnrilinm. He has the iiecnliar power of moving either of these two hearts Independently and can hold one up under the ribs while the othor Is let down into the groin, Where it enn be felt pulsating even mora plainly thuil when in its uatnral posi tion. He can stop one or both from beat ing for a period of one mlnate and probably longer, hot he has been told that to extend the time beyond that limit would probably endanger his life. The stoppage of either heart silences the pulse beats on the oorres)ioidiiig side, but does not affect the other. If both are stopped at once, no poise heat can be detected in any part of the body. "The left heart Is the larger of the two, being about the sire of a eoooannt, which is very large for m man of King's size. The right one Is no larger than a good sired goose egg. "When one heart is down in the (lank and tho other in normal position, they are separated by adistauoeof abont 14 inches. As they lie ordinarily in the chest they are only about two or three inches apart. "Tho most remarkable thing abont King's case is the fact that eaoh heart appears to be complete in all its details and fnrnlshed with sufficient blood for use on its own side of the body. "In some species of lower animals there are two distinct hearts, bat in them the right side sends blood to the lungs, while the left does the work for tho geueral circulation of the whole body. ' Hurled Alive. President Ooorgo T. Augell of the American Haiiiune society has sent the following to the legislature of every state: "it is well known to tho Ameri can press that many persons and how many no one can tell have been burled live. The father of (lie undersigned oame very uear being bnrled alive, be ing declared by his physician dead, and all preparations made for his funeral be fore he could give visible signs of life. The object of this petition, which I bopo yon will cause to be properly presented, la to call public attention throughout our entire country to this important sub ject, and I take pleasure in sending a marked copy of it to the editors of ev ery American newspaper and magazine north of Mexico, asking their assist ance." The Bishop's Laboratory Boot. The laboratory that supplies Bishop Fallows' home brewed nonalooholio beer is working overtime in order to keep up with the demand. The drink, as de scribed by connoisseur, tastes like old fashioned "yarb tea," and appears to be a preparation of roots, herbs, barks and gums, such as the grandmothers of the present generation used to give to "clean out the system" aftor an attack of bolls, carbuncles or spring fever. There is general feeling that Bishop Fallows would not spring any unwholesome or unrighteous beverage on a trusting com munity, and the Hume saloon is doing tj tremendous business.
