St. Anita urges the Indian worsliiHn

taken from them. There nro several

There is trouble in the Young Men's
Conservative club of Toronto. Presi
dent Armstrong recently made some re
marks derogatory to the Conservative
government as to its policy, which al
lowed wholesale immigration of Cana
dians to the United States, and said
Canada was Xmng annexed to the repub
lic) by job lots. This led to charges tiiat
he was not loyal to the Conservative
party, and at a meeting today the club
was asked to pass a resolution expressing
its disapproval of Armstrong's views.
In the discussion that followed it was
asserted that there were now more na
tive born Canadians in the United States
than in Canada, and more in Chicago
than in Toronto. The resolution was
defeated. Cor. Chicago News-Record.

It is rumored that one of the brigands
who have been mnking havoc in the
Campagna U a brother of the vicar gen
eral. Not long ago he headed a party
of de.-iH'radoes that attacked the vehicle
of a church dignitary on the outskirts of
Rome. The divine was horribly fright
ened, but was reassured by the highway
man, who declared ho would not harm
so well meaning a man as himself. In
a short while monsignore and the
masked man were in deep conversation,
the former having been completely won
over by the distinguished manners of
the brigand. A few days lutor monsi
gnore received a courteous note explain
ing that a fur lined clonk was needed,
and stated that it might be left at a cer
tain spot. Baltimore American.
"Sweating" and Enullnh Dressmaking.
England is finding that there is aa
much "sweating" iu dressmaking as in
the tailor trade. It has been discovered
that the most aristocratic west end
dressmakers do little in their own shops
beyond cutting and basting linings, giv
ing; out the rest to wretched women
forced by the pittance they can. earn
