teen years, will probably have
to undergo an operation as the re
sult of swallowing a pin on Friday.

George A. Stratln, of Bingham
ton, and Miss Carrie D. Kimble, of
Holllsterville, were married Satur
day, June 14th, by the Rev. C. Mason
Jones at his residence in Scranton.
Quinton Murray, while cranking
his father's automobile Thursday
evening, preparatory to making a
trip, fractured his right wrist. Dr.
W. T. McConvill gave the case at
tention, Mrs. W. H. Swift received a
telegram Monday afternoon from
Miss Helen Bentley, Williamsport,
Pa., announcing the death of her
father, E. W. Bentley, which occur
red Monday morning. Deceased was
a brother-in-law of the former and
W. J. Ward of this place and an un
cle of Charles and Howard Bentley.
The funeral will be held Wednes
day In Williamsport. Mr. Ward left
on the Erie afternoon train to nt
tend the funeral.
At a meeting of the directors of
the Trl-County Fair association held
in Uniondale recently it was decid
ed to make arrangements for the
best meet ever hold on July 4. Three
classes were made. For the first
ones 2:16 class was framed with
a purse of '? 100. Those not fortun
ate enough to come under the wire
in the above class may bo suited
with the 2:22 class and a purse of
$75. For beginners a slow pace Is
set, only 2:40 with a purse of 60.
A keen interest is felt in the first
two races and some of the best
horses in this section of the state
will go at the second of the bell.
A number of Honesdale automo-
bilists visited Liberty, N. Y., Sunday
to inspect the ruins of Friday's, fire.
, A marriage license was issued
on Saturday to Benjamin F. Brink,
of Audell, and Miss Pearlo E.

Flag Day was generally observ
ed on Saturday by the business
houses and private properties, by dis
playing the starry banner to the

A number of passengers were
out bright and early to take the 7:10
Erie train Monday morning, it be
ing the new leaving time for the
New York train. The train will run
on this schedule until October 1st,
two weeks longer than last season.

wedding at Scranton last week, were:

The 8:08 Erie morning train
from Scranton arrived in Honesdale
on Monday on schedule time, bring
ing with it a large number of pas
sengers. Conductor Abraham Sny
der told a Citizen representative
that the train was well patronized
from Scranton over. "This is only
the beginning; when the train is
running awhile it will be largely
patronized," quoted the conductor.
Fred Smith, of River street,
was arrested on Friday charged with
disorderly conduct by his wife and
was arraigned before 'Squire Smith.
A hearing of the case was deferred
until Saturday afternoon at three
o'clock. Saturday afternoon, how
ever, Mrs. Smith failed to appear
and the hearing was again postpon
ed until next Saturday. In the
meantime the charge may be drop
ped If Fred Smith decides to quit
drinking.

were united in marriage at six-thirty
Thursday evening in St. Mary Mag
dalen's church. The ceremony was
performed by Dr. J. W. Balta of that
church In the presence of the im
mediate relatives of the contracting
parties. "After tho ceremony the
wedding party repaired to the homo
of Otto Castek where a reception
was held. The young couple will re
side on Cottage street.
A. A. Whalen, local agent for
the Prudential Insurance company,
received notice on Friday that ho
has qualified for tho company's con
vention which will be held in Atlan
tic City from June 20 to the 22, In
clusive. Mr. Whalen received his
trip on general excellency. Ho is
ono of a party of about 20 agents
out of 1,500 who havo done except
ionally good work since January 1st.

Frederick Zeaman and Mr. Har
vltt, both of New York city, and
students of the Columbia University,
were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Samuel Katz, the former being a
nephew of Mrs. Katz. They are out
for a pleasure trip and walked from
New York to Honesdale, leaving that
city on Monday last. They leave
for Lake Como to-morrow and from
thence they will go to Binghamton
and from that city to Ithaca, travel
ing the distance on foot.
Debs, the ex-king of the news
boys, who has made a number of
walking reciders in the last few years
arrived in Port Jervis Wednesday
afternoon on a walk to Minneapolis
from New York city in an effort to
beat Weston whom he allowed a
week's start. Debs started Monday
noon from the City- Hall In New
York and spent Tuesday night in
Middletown. Wednesday morning ho
started for Port Jervis and got lost
on tho way and was four hours try
ing to get on tho right road. He
went to Lackawaxen Thursday and
remained there over night. He stop
ped at the Bauer Inn.

The commencement exercises
of St. Mary Magdalen's Graded
School will be held next Monday and
Tuesday evenings, June 23rd and
24th, at 8 o'clock p. m. at the
Church Hall.
Nathaniel Eggleston has been
passing around the cigars for the
past two weeks, celebrating the com
ing into his home of another son.
Nat says he's a dandy and weighed
10 pounds when the stork left him.

The cheese factory at Rileyvillo
which burned on Monday of last
week will be rebuilt. It is reported
on good authority that the work will
begin at once. The building was
owned by farmers in that section of
tho county.
The Young Ladies' Auxiliary of
the Presbyterian church conducted
a supper in the chapel of the church
Thursday evening and they cleared
about $85 above expenses. Straw
berry shortcake was the principal
item on the menu.
The property of W. P. Schenck
and Giles G. Schenck lying in Texas
township, was sold by Sheriff Kimble
Friday afternoon at half-past two
o'clock at the court house. The
property was subject to a judgment
of ?8,000 held by Homer Greene.
W. P. Schenck bid in the property
for ?10.
A regular meeting of the Jun
ior Order, No. 9S0, O. U. A. M., was
held in their hall on Friday evening.
Thirty candidates for membership
were balloted upon. The successful
candidates will be initiated into tho
order on Friday evening, June 27.
At this meeting preparations were
made for tho organization of a fife
and drum corps.
While motoring on the old Del
aware and Hudson canal a few days
since Ralph and Arthur Hoehne, of
Lackawaxen, met a horse and rig
and while trying to back out of their
way tho river bank gave away and
the auto slid down the embankment.
The machine struck a tree and was
completely turned over, breaking the
body of the car. Both men escaped
serious injury.
The property of S. M. Hauck,
consisting of one hundred and thirty-five
acres of land in South Canaan
township, was sold by Sheriff Kimble
at the court house on Friday after
noon at two o'clock. The property
was purchased by Leslie M. and Rus
sell Cease, of South Canaan, through
Attorney M. E. Simons, for $5G. It
was subject to a mortgage of $1,500
in The Wayne County Savings Bank.
Wednesday, June 18, has been
set apart as state grange day for
farmers' boys, at which time young
men from all parts of the state are
invited to visit State College to in
spect tho various departments, par
ticularly the college of agriculture,
where numerous interesting experi
ments are under way. The various
railroads of the state have granted
reduced rates of faro for the round
trip. While the invitation is especi
ally to farmers' boys, all members of
the family are invited. Further in
formation may be secured by writing

On Wednesday morning at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Singer, of
Hawley, Pa., the marriage of their
daughter, Miss Mabel Singer, to Ed
ward Schweitzer, of 104G North Irv
ing avenue, Scranton, took place.
Rev. Speaker of the Holy Trinity
Lutheran church, of Scranton, offi
ciated. The couple were unattended
and tho wedding ceremony was wit
nessed by only Mr. and Mrs. Singer,
Miss Esther Singer, William Singer,
all of Hawley, and Miss Dena Sch
weitzer, of Scranton. The nuptial
couple returned to Scranton on Sat
urday where they will reside in the
Schweitzer home at 104 G North Irv

William F. Heft returned to De
posit, N. Y., Sunday after spending
a two weeks' vacation at his former
homo here. Mrs. Heft and son, Wil
liam will extend their stay in Hones
dale. Mrs. A. L. Schuller, daughter
Margaret, of Upper Montclair, N. J.,
Mrs. Carl Schuller, daughter Alma,
and Mrs. T. E. Callaway, who have
been guests of the former, arrived

Andrew Thompson left Monday
for New York City. After spending
a few days in the metropolis he will
go to Andover, Mass., where Mrs.
Thompson is visiting their son, Au

Chris Guguolas, who has been in
the Corcoran Art School, Washing
ton, D. C, returned home last week
from that institution, having com
pleted the second year work. Ho
will return next fall and resume his
studies.
