Tho Honesdalo Council Junior
Order American Mechanics, will hold
a special meeting on Friday even
ing for tho purpose of voting on
thirty names of prospective mem
bers. Tho initiation of these now
members will take place next week.

i June Decker was backing his
auto out of Cortright's garage on
Tuesday afternoon about half past
four o'clock and when ho had run as
far as tho walk on Main street near
tho Ready Pay Store he stopped. A
small boy about eight years old was
riding a tricycle down Main street
at a fair rate of speed and did not
see the auto until it was too late to
turn. The tricycle ran into the auto
and tho boy was thrown to the
ground. He was more frightened
than injured by the collision when
pedestrians picked him up. Ho "was
too excited to tell them what his
name was or where he lived. All he
could say was that ho lived on

Daniel Wadce has moved his
team from tho Wayne County Hotel
barn to Mrs. Herzog's barn. This is
the team he bought from John Ord
nung of Seelyville, now deceased.

Nelson B. Lambert son of Mr. and
Mrs. J. W. Lambert, was graduated
from the Holbrook School, at Hol
brook, N. Y. Ho arrived home Wed
nesday evening.

Curt Pohle, an employe of the
Gurney Elevator Co., had the mis
fortune to get tho two middle fingers
of his right hand caught under one
of the heavy machine tools while
moving it to the new plant. They
were badly bruised but will not have
to be amputated.
The members of Company E, un
der Captain C. J. Kelly, held a
meeting in the armory Tuesday
night. Poland J. Reynolds was tak
en in as a recruit. Captain Kelly is
trying to round out the company and
desires to inllst a number of able
bodied men for the purpose.
A libel In divorce has been
started in the Wayno county courts
by Minnie L. Rounds, libellant,
against her husband, Jason D.
Rounds. They were married Sapt
18, 1894. The charge is cruel and
barbarous treatment. It was made
returnable the second Monday of
July.
The Honesdale base ball team
will play tho strong Archbald team
on the local grounds Saturday after
noon. The game will 'bo called at
2:30 o'clock. This promises to be
a very good game for Archbald al
ways brings one of the strongest
teams that can be rounded up in the

At a meeting of the Business
Men's Association held last Wednes
day evening it was voted that the
association donate ?25 toward the
support of the Honesdale Baseball
club. Reports were also made con
cerning tho coming picnic which will
be held at Lake Lodore on July 23.

The coldest weather ever re
corded during Juno in the Middle At
lantic and New England States, the
Ohio Valley and the Great Lakes re
gion, was reported Monday to tho
Weather Bureau. The Gulf States'
are tho only territory east of the
Rockies to escape an unseasonable
drop. "A high barometric pressure
of great magnitude" Is the official
reason. Frosts are reported from
Vermont, Central New York, New
England, Pennsylvania, Ohio and
Michigan.

Wyoming Seminary. Wednesday

Tho body of Michael Konpalski,
of Scranton, who was drowned in
the waters of Lake Lodore on Thurs
day afternoon last, while out boat
riding with three others during a
picnic of tho congregation of St.
Wolodomyr's church of Scranton,
was dragged to the surface of tho
lake early Tuesday morning. Men
had been at work dragging the lake
since Thursday but no trace of tho
body could bo found. The finding
of tho remains Tuesday morning was
by accident A. party of men from
Scranton wero Ashing in tho lako
with a drag lino and pulled the body
to tho surface. Tho men thought at
first that they had pulled up a stump
of a tree. The gruesome And prov
ed on examination to be the body of
tho unfortunate man who was
drowned last Thursday. They noti
fied the authorities and Coroner P.
B. Petersen, of Honesdalo, was call
ed. He went th,ere and ompanneled
a Jury who found a verdict of acci
dental death by drowning. The rela
tives In Scranton were notified and
the remains were taken to Scranton
that afternoon for burial,

Andrew Van Leuven, of Ariel,
and Miss Elizabeth Swingle, of South
Canaan, were married on Wednes
day, just before noon, at tho Metho
dist parsonage by Rev. W. H. Swift
County Treasurer W. W. Wood
says all mercantilo taxes must bo in
his hands by July 1st. Unless the
request Is complied with by that
time, according to a now law, tho
tax can be collected by a Justice
of the peace.
The house and surroundings of
William B. Holmes' property is ex
ceedingly attractive. The passerby
cannot help but admiro the many
blooming perennials ln their respec
tive seasons, which add beauty to
the place. Large dignified palms
wave in the breezes and a balmy as
pect is given the premises. Mr.
Holmes recently repainted his homo
which adds beauty to it, making it
very attractive and neat in appear
ance. For tho first time in the State
hospital and perhaps in Scranton, the
pulmotor was brought into play
Tuesday in saving a human life. The
machine in charge of H. N. Squires,
of tne scranton Gas and Water Co.,
was used in reviving Mrs. Margaret
Williams, aged 35 years, a domestic
in tho home of Roland Maynard, who
had been overcome by gas and was
apparently in the throes of death.
She will probably recover. The nul
motor is one of the latest inventions
in the medical world, for adminis
tering artificial respiration.
The color scheme of Mrs. John
A. Gale's dinner in honor of Miss
Marguerite Dolmetsch at Hotel
Chelsea, New York City, was yellow
and white. Quantities of mar
guerites were arranged around the
private dining room where the dinner
was given, and the table decorations
were also of marguerites. A huge
centerpiece consisted of yellow roses
and marguerites arranged in an ar
tistic basket the handle of which
was tied with a bow of yellow chif
fon, and the place cards and favors
were all in the form of marguerites.
The dinner was a beautiful affair in
every detail. And the Marguerite
Idea so artistically carried out, made
a further pretty compliment to the
lovely, graceful girl, who bears the
name of this modest flower, and who
was the honor guest.

hospital, Scranton. "Billy" Is much
improved in health and is spry In
his movements and as lively as a
cricket. His many friends are con
gratulating him upon his rapid recovery.
