CARNEGIE NAMES WORLD'S
TWENTY GREATEST MEN.
None of Tlicin Moiiey-Mnkers Any
One Con .Mnko Money, Ho Says.
Androw Carneglo, in a recent in
terview, had a lot of things to say.
Ho had kind words for Theodore
Roosevelt, although Mr. Carneglo
admitted tho former President every
now and then was flighty, and In his
editorial on the Sherman law took
a whole lot of pages to tell what ho
might havo said in one sentence. Mr.
Carneglo agrees heartily with Roose
velt's proposal for a commission to
regulate trusts as tho Interstate
Commerce Commission regulates rail
roads. Mr. Carneglo next talked about
greatness and wealth, and how to
got both. Ho gave tho reporter a
list of 20 great mon, who, ho said,
had made tho world what it was.
Tho 20 Great Men.
Seven of those 20 were Scotch
men, Mr. Carnegie proudly pointed
out, and Shakespeare, who leads his
list, ho said, "as tho old Scot eald,
'had brains enough to havo been
ono."' These aro th 20:
Shnkespearc. Morton. Jonnnr. Noll
son, Lincoln, Bums, Gutenberg, Edl
son, Siemens, Bessemer, Musher,
v.oiumuus, watt, uoll. Arkwrlght,
Franklin, Murdoch, Hargrcaves,
StcphciiBon nnd Symington.
'Hut not ono of these men," a
reporter inturposed, "made much
money."
Mr. Carneglo threw up Mb hands.
"Money!" ?io oxclnlnicd. "Anybody
can mako money. These men have
uono something for tho world. Do
you supposo they care whether or
not they were paid for it?
"Money Is a bother. Tho great
irouuio nuout this world, I find, Is
not how to get money but how to
get rid of It wisely."
How to Get Money.
Tho reporter casually Inquired as
10 nis metnod or getting money and
Mr. Carnegie dictated theso rules:
"Don't drink.
"Don't smoke. It's foolish and no
employer wants foolish men work
lug for him.
"Live within your income.
"Don't bo content with doing only
your duty. Do moro than your duty.
It's tho horso who finishes a neck
ahead who wins the race.
"Use your head. Don't follow the
rule, 'Obey orders if you break your
employer.' Tell your employer that
you know more about your depart
ment of his business than ho possibly
could know. He may not like It
then, but ho will remember and you
will some day bo rewarded.
"What chanco has a poor employee
or uecoming a partner?" was asked
and Mr. Carnegie replied: "Some dny
when the employer Is ill, perhaps ho
may send down for some papers.
Then the poor employee may bo sent
out with them and perhnps have a
chanco to meet Madamo Employer
and Madam's daughter. There's his
chance.
Mr. Carnegie winked.
"No poor mnn should bo prejudiced

"Get this In sure," he chuckled

But I don't know of a happier
