'Last week Milton Cross spent three days In Scranton with his brothers, Freeman and Friend. Miss Nalona Cattorson, Moscow, was tho guest of Mrs. C. E. Webster last week. November 27th was 'Karl Simons' 16th birthday and a number of his young friends helped him celebrato tho occasion in the evening. R. B. and I. G. Simons 'have remov ed their steam saw mill to Holllster vllle where they have some work to do. Mesdames C. E. Webster and 'R. B. Simons were elected delegates to at tend the Sunday school convention at Maplewood next Friday. On Thanksgiving day Mrs. W. B. Lcsher enteretaincd for dinner Mr. and Mrs. A. Lesher and daughter lydla, and Mr. and Mrs. S. N. Cross and son George. Mrs. Sarah Stev ens also had a number of her chil dren home for dinner. After a horse has been worked hard and fed high and then stands idle for a couple of days they are occasionally taken suddenly ill with some spinal trouble that attacks them before they are driven a mile and J. E. Cross has lost a number of good tiorses under these conditions. Last Tuesday morning Howard But ler started on the usual delivery trip and a fine big black horse was taken sick and got as far as Louis Buyer's and after suffering for two days, died. Although this horse was six teen years old, perhaps, he was as useful and valuable as any horse In Sterling. Our old friend, Mrs. Grace Glllnor Zane, is now at Empire, Canal Zone, 'Panama, and we were pleased to 're ceive a pictorial postal from her last week, but she claimed It "was not a goodplcture as you can't see the cock-roaches or lizards on it." She described the sensation of being sea sick on her way there as "being stood on your head In a corner." Pernaps that is a condition that is tetter realized than described. About one year ago tho Odd Fol lows gave Rev. W. E. Webster a line plush robe and last Saturday night he very kindly returned the favor by giving the boys an excellent oys ter suppen They were all out In .full force and as the oysters were just out of the shell, were delicious, and at the conclusion of the feast they gave the Reverend gentleman a ris ing, vote of thanks that is, the ones who were able to rise and wo might add this We notlcod that a number were not ablo to get out to church Sunday, Last Sunday Mrs. Hugh JFitz left for Scranton to see her daughter, Mrs. France, who has- Just passed through a successful operation for appendicitis at the Stato hospital. Last Wednesday evening at the church Rev, Webster had a service that was very appropriate for tho oc casion and several gave a reading or a declamation that Tvero enjoyed by all. To-day tho old school board will gracefully retire and the new board will we'll, time alone will tell what they will do. But they were all elected with tho understanding that they were to run tho schools as economically as possible and If they 'fall to do so, they will get, as they Justly deserve, eternally kicked. Our cash road tax and school tax have heen scorchers- Next Saturday afternoon, Rev. L. C. Murdock, district superintendent, is expected to hold the first and 'last quarterly conference here for the present conference year and preach next Sunday morning. LAKEVILLE. Special to Tho Citizen.
