Cornelius Dull, for many years
a leading attorney in Pike county,
died of apoplexy Tuesday afternoon,
December C, in his law olllco. Ilo
was within a month of being 66 years
old.' HIS s(!fn"1s district attorney for
Pike county. Mr, Hull was promi
nent In politics, and onco was a pres
idential elector on tho Democratic
ticket. Friends at various times
urged him to seek congressional and
judicial honors but he always declin
ed. Ho was also a well known Ma
son. Stato Secretary of Agriculture
N. D. Critchfield has issued a pamph
let showing tho work of his depart
ment in controlling fertilizers sold in
the State this year. In all 1,809
samples were taken, one-third of
which were analyzed, and in general
they were found to comply with tho
requirements of tho Stato law as to
branding. Years ago it was not un
common for fertilizers to be sold
which were not as labeled, but this
practice has been broken up, arrests
having followed where It was shown
that the labels did not correspond to
the goods.
The organists and choir leaders
of the various churches throughout
tho city are making great prepara
tions for the musical programs to be
given at tho services on Christmas
day. Tho splendid inusicul programs
that aro rendered at the Honosdale
churches at the Easter and Yuletide
seasons havo attracted attention
throughout the entire county and
this year, judging from the work
that has already been done, will be
no exception to the usual high stand
ard of musical programs that have
been produced by the peoplo of real
talent and ability In the musical

rates for the transportation of liquors
In packages and Jugs, that wero to

were suspended last Wednesday until
April 14, by an order of tho Inter
state Commerce commission, which
will make an inquiry into the reason
ableness of tho proposed Increases.
Tho action was taken on complaint
of S. L. Clarke and many other liq
uor dealers of Virginia and North
Carolina against tho Southern ex
press and all other express compan
ies, alleging that the proposed rates
would lncreaso tho cost to consumers

second growth lot of pine.
William F. Hornbeck Informs
the Hancock Herald that his father,
J. K. Hornbeck, of Equlnunk, one
of Wayne County's Commissioners,
has given him a present that Is a

five-passenger auto, which ho pur

will go to Sheriff Harry S. Urldler Of
Doylestown In 1911 and his record
will thereby bo maintained. When
the law first went Into effect the
sheriff asked for No. 1, and as
he was first ho secured It. Now he

Hawley, has resigned on account of
his business interests. His position
with tho Erie Railroad is such that
ho can't get away. S. T. Palmer,
Hawley, who has boon the general
Erie station agent therd, has offered
his resignation to the compnny,
which has been accepted. Mr. Pal
mer Is a well-known railroader, and
resigns on account of poor health, to
live a retired life. A now county
auditor will not be appointed until
late In December or early In Janu
ary, when his services are needed.
State Treasurer C. F. Wright,
Susquehanna, is being highly com

ducting his office. Harrlsburg pa
pers say it Is conducted like a panic.

School Gymnasium last Friday even

team from Carbondale. Our boys
are fast gaining a reputation as
clever and proficient players of tho
greatest Indoor sport in America.
