Tub recently elected county officials now have their troubles In holding off applicants for minor positions on "the hill." Tim advertiser who advertises periodically does not get the full value of his space. Keep everlastingly at it, is a good motto. Tub contest for the Republican legislative nomination in this district will prove one of the most spirited in recent years. There's lots of fun ahead for the manipulators. The Miners' Journal is laboring hard to got back into the Republican fold. The general belief Is that the party is better off with the "old woman" in the ranks of the enemy. The large number of cases yester day in which the court directed ver dicts of not guilty and prosecutors for the costs is evidence that the present grand jury did not follow the pre cedents set for them iu the past. Thbke is scarcely a family in the land into whose home a newspaper of some description does uot find its way. The members of that family way never look inside the covers of a magazine, but they experience a sensation of loss if their newspaper fails to reach them. Sour people who were charging the administration with a terrible loss of life during the recent war are saying nothing more on that subject now that they have an opportunity to com pare our losses with those of Great Britain in her campaign in progress now In South Africa, where English losses in action in a month have been greater than those of our entire army in ail the war with Spain. Chief of the Bureau of Mines J. E. Broderick, of Hazleton, who has just completed making a tour of the coal regions of the state in the line of his duties, is quoted as saying that the miners everywhere are prosperous, contented and happy. 'He is reputed to have said further that wageB have been advanced in some places, and that the only dissatisfaction existing is In the Soranton district. There is a brighter future for the workers in the anthracite mines. Have patience. Experience shows that the anthracite regions are the last to be benefitted by the revival of business, kund the first to suffer from stagnation. The Illinois flag law, which pro hibits the use of the American flag or representations of It for advertising purposes, has been declared uncon stitutional by Judge Gibbons on the ground that the informers' fee clause in the flag act is against the spirit of American law. The vital principle of the law itself was not touohed upon. It is probable and much to be hoped that the law will be amended so as to be constitutional. The practice of using the ilug to drape the victor in prize fights, is a spectaole that has disgusted even the not oversensitive spectators at some of these exhibi tions. Pa. M. I), CUTTER, Supt. Transportation, Suutb Uetultbeu, Pa. J Mr. II. N. Warner, of Kearney, Neb., says: "In 1894 I was attacked with paralysis in my left side. You might stick a pin to the head into my it hip and I would not feel it. I was unable to do any kind of work, and had to be turned in bed. I fully made up my mind that I could not be cured, as I had used all kinds of medicine and had tried many doctors. At last I was advised to try Dr. Williams' Pink Pills for Pale People, and I very reluctantly commenced their use last September. Before I had finished my first box I began to feel much better, and by the time I had used six boxes the paralysis disappeared; and although two months have passed since I finished my last box, there has been no re currence of the disease."
