have got down to rock-bottom, and
recognize the sterling worth of Doer

The Pottsville Chronicle is now
sorry that it espoused the cause of
Joseph Nichter, Democratic candi
date for Recorder. If a man, in the
opinion of his neighbors, is unfit to
be Commissioner, is he qualified for
the Recordership ?
Hbrr is a sample of Democratic
reform administration. An inmate
of the almshouse writes to a county
seat newspaper to expose the cruel
ties at that institution. He says in
mates are driven from the table, und
that the three daily meals "are not
to the value of four cents." He de
mands an investigation.
The splendid record made by the
Republican Board of Commissioners
is a hard nut for the Democratic
organs to crack. The fact that this
is the first year in the history of the
county in which no temporary loans
were made, has knocked the wind out
of the sails of the aforesaid organs,
and they have resorted to vilification.
That is the resort of cowardice in its
last extremity.
The Shenandoah Herald Is amusing very
amusing but It cannot save Emanuel Jenlcyn
from defeat. Joe Nichter will be the next
Recorder of Schuylkill county, despite the
Hekald's snapping and snarling. Pottsville
Chronicle.
That is the way our Democratic
contemporary replys to the questions
propounded by the - Herald as to
Mr. Niohter's qualifications. Many of
the leading citizens of Pottsville
nine-tenths of them Democrats de
clared Mr. Nichter unfit to be County
Commissioner when he was an ap
plicant, and he wasn't appointed.

public positions, and those who have
not. The presont Itepublicau Board
of Commissioners have shown excel
lent busiuessabllities, and under their
management the taxpayers have
saved over $33,000 in six months, and
the county is now on a cash basis,
every obligation being met alid a sur
plus in the treasury. No person
would think of discharging an em
ploye who had conducted their busi
ness so successfully. Why not use
the same business discretion in public
affairs, and vote for Kantner and
Reber ?
The communications published in
the Herald from the pen of "Black
burn," au ardent supporter of the
Chicago platform, have fallen like a
bomb in the ranks of the Democratic
traitors of '90, and has sent a cold
chill down the backs of the leaders of
that baud who are, in the opinion of
our correspondent, trying to wreck
the Democratic party. But a few
weeks ago these same Democratic
candidates were congratulating them
selves upon the "glorious" victory
they had achieved at the Democratic
county convention in compelling the
delegates to not only nominate them
for the most desirable offices in the
county, but to practically repudiate
the Chicago platform, and add insult
to the honest Democratic voters of
the county. But, alas, a change has
come over the spirit of their dreams.
They have been basely deceived. The
loyal party voters refuse to sanction
the base ingratitude of their repre
sentatives in the convention, and will
vote to repudiate the party traitors
who have temporarily gained control
of the party organization.

and the pottery manufacturers, Secre
tary Hishop, of the stato hoard of ar

ment was agreed on by which tho girls

per day. They resumed work today.

Schley's Reception In Lynolinnrrr.

committee of prominent citizens, in

his daughter-in-law, the wife of Lieu
tenant T. F. Schley, was Miss Lang
home, of this city. He was kept busy

Captain Brooks' license as master and
