An Alilo ami f.enutliy Hiicmnent Hi.hiiiltteu Tor Wlmt It In Worth. Poltsvllle. Sept. I). The report of the Omul Jury was presented to Judge Marr, hy Foreman M H Cniey this morning It is signoil by lilMuoIf mid Oforee O Freed, of Schuylkill lUveti, the secretary, ami Isa vol uminous document. Then-putt U as follows: The Orand Inquest of tlio CommoiiWBnlth of Pennsylvania, Inquiring for the County of Schuylkill for Septemlior Sessions 1899. re spectfully report to said Court, as follows: We havo passed upon IBS hills of Indict ment presented to us of whloh numher SO have heen returned as true hills, aud (ill us no true bills. We havo placed the costs in 111 of the hills ignored upon the respective prose cutors or pi osoiutrlx and in 3 canes ou tlio county, where we have had the disposition of the same. COMMBNI) WAKflKN AND MAT110N. We have visited the county prison, and found tho Minn under the careful nud judi cious management of tho Warden, Captain I,evan, in a very eihkI condition. He is ably assisted by the worthy Matron Mrs. lEolilu- son, and the several assistants. The prison parlor should recetvo attention as soon as possihle. It should be papered and painted and lenoyated generally, and sup plied with new furniture. The present furniture, is to say the least, very much dilapidated, and should be replaced as soon as possible Tho dining room is also very much in need of papering. GIVE TUB ALMSHOUSE A PUFF, We havo visited the county almshouse, and have examined all the departments thereof, aud found everything in excellent condition, as to cleanliness and good management. Tlio stewart and matron, Mr. and Mrs. Kegloy, and their several assistants aro to be corn. mended for their caro of tho institution, aided by the heads of the several depart ments. Tho hospital, under tho care of Dr. Monaghan, is deserving also of special com moudation. The operating room should be provided with a sterilizer, in order to make it thoroughly furnished, the physician being often subjected to great inoouveuienco for want of it. Fire escapes should be placed on tho maiu building as soon as possible; the inmates being old, feeble and descrepit, it would bo impossible to effect their rescue in case of fire. We heartily approve the action of tho Commssionors and tho l'oor Directors, in their intentiou of erecting a new slaughter houso and a new ice house. MOEE WA.TBK NEEDED. In company with the Board of Directors, we visited the present reservoir, from which the institution is supplied with water, and we are unanimous in our opinion, that steps should he taken to increase the supply at once. Tho sanitary condition of the institu tion demands it, as well as the safety of the Inmates and the buildings. Even the present reservoir, with its limited supply, should re ceive attention. There Is a barn but a short distance from the reservoir, the drainage from which flows into the stream and pollutes the water. The Orand Jury is of the opinion that nn artesian well sunk on the premises would provide a snllicient supply for the whole in stitution, aud the present reservoir Could be reserved for use in case of tire. From repre sentations made us, we believe a good supply could be secured in this, at an outlay of a few hundred dollars, aud wo believe this matter should be attended to without unnecessary delay. PRIVATE PUBLIC IiOSINESS. The telephone in the Commissioners office should be enclosed to secure privacy In trans acting the public business when it is neces sary to use the telephone. DR. SALLADE 8 AMMONIA PLANT. We would call attention to the existence of a nuisance near the public highway leading from Pottsville to Schuylkill Haven. A fertilizer plant somewhere in the vicinity sends forth such offensive and obnoxious odors as to be a great nuisance to tho travel ing public aud it should bo abated. "WATCHMAN NEEDED. A watchman should be placed at the cross ing in the borough of Slahanoy City, whero Centre street, the lines of the Schuylkill Traction Company, aud tho Philadelphia & Reading Railway all cross at the same point. It is a very dangerous point, and should be better protected. THAMKS FOR ALL. To our foreman aud secretary, we return our thanks for the able manner in which they have assisted us. In conclusion we thank the Honorable court and its several officers, for their aid and courtesy during our deliberations. All of which is respectfully submitted. M. H. Carey, Foreman, Attest: Geo. G. Freed, Secretary. , Grand Jury Room, Pottsville, Pa Septem ber ath, 1600. Discovered by a Woman. Another great discovery has been made, and that too, by a lady in this country. "Dis ease fastened its clutches upon her and for seven years she withstood its severest tests, but her vital organ were nnderoiined ami death seemed imminent. For three months she coughed incessantly, and could not sleep. She finally discovered a way to recovery, by purchasing of us a bottle of Dr. King's New Discovery for Consumption, and was so much relieved on taking first dose, that she slept all night i and with two bottles, has been ab solutely cured.
