Pittsburg, Juno 27. President Patrick
Dolau, of tho United Mine Workers of tho
Pittsburg district, says that ovory mfno hero
needs from 25 to 100 additional diggers, mak
ing from 4,500 to 5,000 men who could havo
teady employmont for the entire year. Ho
says tho output of coal will bo the greatest in
the history of tho trade, and that If tho
miners keep thoir contract with tho operators
this year, 15 cents more a ton can bo had
next year from the operators.

In view of tho great demand for coke In
the Connollsvillo coke regions and tho ex
trcme scarcity of labor it is said that it is tho
intention of tho Frick Coko Company, now
employing over 13,000 men, to import from
the coal districts in tho East and West about
8,000 men tomako up a complement necessary
to meet the demands for labor, Within tho

ones have been erected and hundreds more

Mrs. J. Frank Torbort whilo puttihg a strap
around a trunk in some manner the buckle
flew up, striking her glasses, breaking them
and pieces of glass cut her left eye quite
severely. It was nocesary to take her to tho

Lying near the Iteliance culm bank, tho
body of Peter Dunlavey, of Mt. Curmel, was
found yesterday. There was a razor 30 feet
distant, but no cuts on the corpse largi

One of tho three men arrcstod yesterday
for committing robberies in tho First ward
was liberated from tho lockup at two o'clock
this morning. Tho outor dQor of tho lockup
was forced opon and the cell lock wns miss
ing. To-day Policeman Martin Muliahoy
sworo out a warrant for tho arrest of Anthony
Skurnalus, charging him with being tho man
who liberated tho prisoner.

played the guitar and was accompanied by
Miss Bradigau, of Shenandoah, on tho man

John Berg, of Egypt, Lobigh county, who
formerly conducted a hotel at Ceutro nnd
Emcrick streots, is in town ou n visit. Ho
reports tbo cement business as enjoying an
unprecedented boom. Hands are scarco and
tho works are run on Sunday to endeavor to
meet tho extraordinary demand.
New Air Engines.
The new compressed air engines at Tunnel
Ridge colliery woro tested yesterday and run
regularly, to-day. Tho test was very suc
cessful. The engines haul coal from Elmwood
nnd Tunnel collieries workings to tho bottom
of the slope. The engines tako the placo of
about a dozeu mules.
Heaths and Funerals.
John Snyder, who died at his home in
Mahanoy City on Friday night, was burled
to-day.
Tbo funeral of Florenco Mahonoy took
placo from the home of tho deceased at Malu
noy Plane this morning. High mass was
celebrated at tho Church of the Holy Rosary
and interment was made at Frackvlllo.

mittee met here yesterday and in
dorsed tho action of tho delegates to
the county convention by passing reso
lutions favoring the nomination of
Colonel A. L. Hawkins, of the Tenth
Pennsylvania, for the nomination as
state treasurer. Tho resolutions were
received with cheers and applause and
were carried without a dissenting
voice.
