Cleveland. Juno 20. Ud to 4 o'clock
In the afternoon yesterday promised to
bo tho most uneventful day In tho big
sireor. rnnroau strike. At that hour
another soriouB riot broke out In an
entirely now auarter. and ono non
union man was sent to the hospital In
consequence.
Tho coniDnny began yesterdny tho
operation of two new lines, those on
acovill and Gentral avenues. The
cars were proteoted by policemen, and
until afternoon no trouble occurred.
Just before 4 o'clock two of the Scovlll
cars approached the crossing of the
Pennsylvania railroad. There they
were met by a mob of. moro than 2,0u0
men and women. One of the cars was
taken across the railroad safely, but
tho other was held up by the mob. A
porfect shower ot paving bricks and
stones fell about the car and crashed
against the vestibule nt tho front end,
behind which tho motorman was con
coaled. Women threw bricks nnd handed
them to the men who were in the front
of the crowd. The windows of tho
cor had been lowered, and tho bricks
crashed against the seats and fell upon
the floor ot the car. The conductor es
caped injury, but the motorman, A. J.
McGrew, of St. Louis, was struck on
the head with a brick and rendered
unconscious. Ho was taken to a hos
pital. The patrolman on tho car was
also bit with a brick, but was not
seriously hurt. When a detachment
of police arrived tho mob dispersed,
and no arrests were mnde.-
Tho demonstration which had been
planned for last night to Influence tho
notion of the city council with respect
to the ordinance prohibiting the em
ployment of motorman who have not
had ten days' experience operating can
in this city, consisted of a parade In
the down town streets with torch
lights, drum corps and brass bands. A
crowd of 5,000 persons assembled, but
all of them did not participate In tho
parade. Tho crowd was demonstrative,
but not disorderly.
At the meeting of the council thero
was a scene of great disorder. Tho
gallery and lobby of the chamber were
packed by u large crowd, and every
speaker who was Inclined to favor tho
railroad company was hissed. This
continued until Mayor Farley made a
speech, in which he declared that ho
did not propose to submit to 'intimi
dation. x
Tho ordinance fixing the require
ments for motormen was passed under
a suspension of tho rules. A resolu
tion was also adopted requesting tho
corporation counsel to roport whether
the franchises of tho company could
not bo forfeited if It failed to run cars
on all its lines. Several other resolu
tions were offered and referred to com
mittees. A special meeting of thq
council is to be hold tomorrow even
ing, and In tho meantime a committee,
which was appointed last night, will
seek to bring about a settlement of tho
strike.
Tho leader of the strike said today
that about tho only question at Issue
now was whether all the old men
would be reinstated if tho strike tvai
declared off. The demand for abso
lute recognition of the union appears
to have been abandoned. President
Everett says he cannot agree to take
back all men, for some of them will
never be reinstated.

A Wreck From Grippe,
Catarrh and Asthma.
RESTORED WITH
I was known as "The Woman who Coughs," for I coughed in
cessantly. I was a school teacher till my health failed. Catarrh had
eaten away the partition in my nose. It had produced Bronchitis,
Asthma, dreadful Stomach troubles and weak kidneys. In fact it had
gone all through my system, making me an easy victim for the Grippe
which left me a wreck in mind and hddy. This was the condition the
doctors left me in, after dosing me with opium, quinine, etc. Then I
bought cough cures without end but they only made me worse, I was
in despair till I got hold of Brazilian Balm aud Toxicola Tablets.
They acted like magic from the first, and in a few weeks I was cured
and better than I had been in years. Talk about wonderful remedies,
Brazilian Balm and Toxicola. saved my life.

Philadelphia, Jtina 20. Shortly he
fort 1 o'clock yesterday morning, when
the safe of the Falrmount Park Trans
portation company, located In the re
ceiving office at Belmont, was tilled
with the receipts of two days, amount
ing In exact figures to $3,300.66, a gang
of masked cracksmen, nutnberlngabout
ten or twelve, swooped down upon the
place and stole the money, after hold
ing up the receiver anil five other men,
binding them hard aud fast with pic
ture cord. The mouths ot the cap
tured men were gagged with rags.
The time and place chosen by tho
bandits were both perfectly adapted
for the desperate work In hand. The
car barn of the trolley company Is lo
cated at Qlenslde, midway between
the river and Helmont Mansion. In the
ravine leading down from the plateau
of lielmont to the Schuylkill. Thd
building Is embowered In heavy tim
ber land, and at that early hour Is as
lonely and as far removed from the
busy city near by as If that city was a
thousand miles away.
Not only were members of the gang
at the Immediate scene of the robbery,
but It Is a fact that pickets were oper
ating miles away, destroying telegraph
and telephone wires at the terminus
of the park trolley, so as to insure the
defeat of any communication which
the trolley employee would be likely
to send to thejietectlvs bureau.
The employes overpowered by the
bandits were Frank Levan, night
receiver; Philip Eves, nlghtelectrlclan;
Henry Whltehouse, assistant electric
Ian; William Cademus, night watch
man, and C. Hurry Watson, a conduc
tor. One after another these men were
bound by members of the gang, who
stood over them with drawn rovolvern,
ready to fire at the first outcry that
might be made. Nltro-glycerlne was
first tried on the safe, but that fall
ing the trolley company's own tools
were used to pry It open.
Throughout the commission of tho
crime It took more than an hour for
the robbers to finish their work they
exhibited all the assurance and show
ed all the characteristics of experienced
burglars. Thpre Is little doubt that
some one In the employ of the com
pany, who was either a member of the
gang or in collusion with them, had
given them full and complete Infor
mation of the lay ot the ground.
As a result of tho vigilance of the
police three men were arrested later
lu the day In the park on suspicion of
being connected lu some way with the
robbery. At a hearing before Magis
trate South the men gave their names
and addresses as Peter Duffert and
Charles Smith, of Newark, N. J., and
Albert Loeds, of Twentieth street and
Ridge avenue. Duffert and Smith said
thoy woro tramping from Reading to
Baltimore. Their appearance, how
sver, was too prosperous for vagrants.
In the magistrate's opinion, and ho
held them In $G00 ball each for a fur
ther hearing. They were sent to

A man dragged by
a wild horse would
cut himself loose if he
could. He would not
have his flesh bruised and torn for a min
ute if he could prevent it. Rut many a
man is uraggeu along uy
disease when he might
just as well be well.
The man who is
losing flesh and vi
tality who is worn-

all the time is -ifjziy
on the road to
death. He is
holding out an
invitation to disease. Consumption
comes by neglect. Heart disease is a
growth from other disorders. Nervous
prostration doesn't come tit a day.
Take Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Dis
covery at the first sign of failing health
and you will seldom be very sick. The
"Golden Medical Discovery" is the best
blood-maker flesh-builder nerve-vital-izer.
It frees the liody from all disease
germs. It invigorates the whole diges
tive system and strengthens heart, lungs
and brain. Hundreds of thousands of
grateful patients have testified to its
value.
