Filipino capital, Is in tho possession of tho American troops. Tho flower I of Agulnaldo's army has boon annihi lated and General MacArthur holds tho , strategic key to tho ontiro northorn part of Luzon. I Eight Americans wcro killed In tho nssault upon tho city. Tho loss to tho rebels was terrific. What remnlned of their army was finally driven back Into the town and boyond It to the hills. General MacArthur had 6,000 troops engaged in tho attack. Their valor was unparalcllcd. Calumpit was on flro when tho con certed advance of General MacArthur's division, comprising tho brigades of Generals Halo, Wheaton and Lawton was ordered. Tho Insurgents met tho advance with severe firing. Tho greater part of Agulnaldo's army was In tho town and the trenches before it, having mado n stand thero after tho fall of Malolos. The strategic attack upon the city was made by Halo's brigade, which moved down tho right bank of tho Qulngua river, and by Whenton's bri gade, on the left bank. General wheaton's command, the Kansas and Montana volunteers, re paired tho bridge over the Bagbag river in the morning. The volunteers then crossed nnd rushed upon the Filipinos In the trenches. Tho order to ndvanco upon Calum pit was recelvod enthusiastically by the American troops. There had long been a thirst among the troops to avenge the death of several of their fellows during the fighting mnrch from Malolos, and they wore eager for tho capture of tho main stronghold of Agulnaldo and his mon. Scouting parties sent out a short time before tho attack returned to re port that Calumpit had been set afire by tho rebels. In the attack tho American troops wcro deployed In a long line beforo tho city. This lino was gradually closed in, maintaining an intense fir ing upon the trenches and immediate defenses of tho capital. It was sliort range fighting, and the Americans wero moro than equal to it. while the Insurgents were pressed back whenever thoy attempted a stand. The guns of the Utah artillery did masterful work. They tore great gaps in the trenches and drove tho rebels out with appalling- slaughter. Then the infantry men charged the trenches. The rebels stood their ground as long as they could and then fled. Tho Americans then had little diffi culty in entering tho city. The flro set by tho rebels was spreading rapidly and it seemed a forlorn hope to at tempt extinguishing It. On all sides was to bo seen tho havoc wrought by the intensity of the Ameri can firing. The dead rebels lay two, and oven three, deep in some places. The trenches were choked with dead bodies. What remained of the rebel army fled to the hills, closely pursued by the American soldiers, although the latter were In a worn out condition from the continuous fighting of the last few days. Some have been Vnown to fly into a nassion on the witness stand when an inquisitive lawyer, asks, "How old are you?" The actual number of years don't count for much in a healthy, vigorous woman. If she be forty, she will look younger than a weak woman at 25. Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription keeps women looking young by keeping disease away from those marvelously deli cate organs which distinguish the female sex. It cures all the debilitating wastes and drains, all the aches and pains. It 3ulets the nerves, and stops those bearing own sensations. It fits the wife for the task of child-bearing-, making the period of gestation one of comfort, shortening labor and making it almost painless. It fortifies the whole system, so that recovery after confinement is quick, and there are uo dangerous after-effects. The babe of the woman who takes "Favorite Prescrip tion " is sure to be healthier than the babe of the mother who does not take it. There is no alcohol or opiate in this medicine. It is a pure, non-alcoholic tonic and nervine. Mrs. Axel Ker, of Gordonvillt, Cape Girardeau Co., Mo., writes: " When I look at my little boy 1 feel It ray duty to write you. ThU is my fifth child and the only one who came to maturity; the others having died from lack of nourish ment so the doctor said. I was not sickly in any way. and this time I just thought 1 would try your Prescription. I took nine bottles and to my surprise it carried me through and gave us as fine a little boy as ever was. Weighed ten and one-half pounds. He is now five months old, has never been sick a day, and is so strong that every body who sees him wonders at him."
