Albln, pastor of tho Calvary Baptist church, on South Jardln street, has begun 11 religious campaign of n somewhat vigorous character to prepnro the pooplo for the end of tho world, ur tho second coining of (Jlirint. According to tho announcement himlo by the pastor, "Signs of tho times point to tho tlnio of Ills coming being near, and that tho great Imltlo of 'Armageddon' will Hmib!y take place tills year of 1809.'' Tho congregation in nttcnilanco at tho first Ice turo, last evening, comfortably filled tho cosy llttlo placo of wuishlp of tho denomination, and tlioio who attended wero treated to soino oxi'oIIbiiI vocal music of a sacrod character by Mr William Waters and Iiliclioir. Rev Albln has nn. imprcsslvo pulpit ap pearance, and his delivery commands atten tion. Ai ho says himself, tho course ho has stnrtcd is not In tho nature of sermons, but lectures on tlio gospel, with tho Idea of pio paring tlio people for the momentous epoch which ho believes is at hand. As stated In Ills introductory, Rev. Albln has been n preacher of tho gospel for almost 21 years, aud for 20 years of that period he lias de voted much thought and time to a study of tho fulfillment of tho prupbecy of the sccoud coming of tlio Lord Jesus Christ. In fact, ho has lectured mid published works bearing upon the subject during his residence in this country, and in England. Ho is enthusiastic on tlio subject, nnd his discourse is interest ing Although Itov. Albln did not baso his lec turo upon a text, ho took occasion to read, among others, tho following paragraphs from Matthew XXIV as tho scrlpturo losson In tho oarly part of the service : "Verily I say unto you, thoro shall not bo left hero 0110 stono upon another, that shall not bo thrown down. Tell us, wheu shall theso things be? And what shall be the sign of Thy coming, and of tho end of tho world? And Jesus answered and said unto thorn, tako heed that no man decelvo you. For many shall come in my namo say ing, I am Christ : nnd shall decelvo many. And yo shall hear of wars nnd rumors of wars ; soo that ye bo not troubled ; for all these things must como to pass, but tho cud is not yet. For nation shall riso against nation, nnd kinndom against kingdom j and there shall bo famtnes, and pestilences, and earthquakes. In divers places. All these are tlio beginning of sorrows. " After reiterating his mission to prepare tho people for tho advent prophesied, Rov. Albln said that two great giants stood in tho path way ignorance and uubclief, but as David slow Goliath, so would tho 31,000 promises of tho gospel bo thrown, as in a sling, against tbo giants until they aro slain. This work, ho said, has been going on a long time, for tbo gospel has been translated into every lauguago in uso on tbo faco of the Globe. The Ignorance of tho gospel truths, said Rov. Albin, is duo to people uot reading tbo Bible for themselves, or because, so to speak, they only read It with one eye. This is, ho said, lamentably true as to professed christians. good, truo christians, and even as to many of tho clergy. They fail to realize tho full force of the second coming of Christ. Rev. Albiu then urged the congregation to read the Blblo during tho coming week, from Genesis to Roveiation, and said that, with this preparation, the thome of his lectures might be more clearly understood as they progressed. One of the hindrances ex perienced In tho teachings, ho said, is that so many peoplo have preconceived ideas. An other is superstition, so much so, in tho litter sense, that some people believe that only ministers of the gospel can understand the Bible. Another hindrance is wrong teaching Many people aro superstitious of Revelation, yet in tho first book Uod has promised blessing on every living bouI that reads the first book of Roveiation. Following this Rev, Alblu urged that the book of Daniel and Bevelatlon bo read during the coming week The clergyman then proceeded to treat smo of the objections raised against his theory, among them (1) that it has been written that no m.in, not eron the angels in heaven, shall know when tho Son of Man cometh. To this Rev. Albin said tho declaim tion applied to the first coming: that it was preached whon Christ was upon earth, and Kevelatlon was written sixty years later. In tho old testament Christ's second coming Is spoken of twenty tlraos to ouo moution of IIU first coming; and in the new testament Ills second coming is spoken of SSI times or once in every 25 verses. Tho second objec tion raised Is that so many peoplo boliovo in the second coming in a spiritual sense, while, in fact, tbo spiritual coming is embodied in the conversion of sinuers, "My lectures, said Rev. Albin, "treat of the comlog of Christ in a literal sense his personal coming, The third objection is that tho second com ing is tbo coming of death. To this Rev, Albin replied that death is the enemy of the human family. Death smites. Christ will como to claim his followers. As to false prophets, Rev. Albln dismissed the subject with exhortation of the congrega' tion to beware of them, and referred to cases he had read of where pretenders had caused deluded people to part with their earthly be, longings under tne impressien tuat the pre tender was the personification of th prophesied Savior, In closing his lecture for the evening Rov, Albiu referred to tho turbulent condition of affairs between the foreign nations. Speak ing of tho Peace Congress called by tho Czar of Russia, be said that this was only in ae cordance with the holy prophesy that there would be cries of Peaco ! Peace 1" but said that the Czar was all the while makln preparations for war and, at an unexpected moment, there will be a great clash, aud Europe will bo deluged by blood ; then, bo aid, we may expect tho fulfillment of the prophesy.
