Mr. Pottlgrew offered the Gorman amendment with the clause containing the $230,000 exemption stricken out, but It was also defeated. Mr. White then proposed the Gorman amendment so modified that it levies a tax of one-(iuarter of 1 per cent upon all corporations engnged in the re fining of sugar or petroleum.
