    Rheumatism
Is a blood disease anil only a blood remo
Ay can cure it. So many people make
the mistake of taking remedies which
nt best are only tonics and cannot possi
bly reach their trouble. Mr. Asa Smith,
Greencastle, Indiana, says: "For years
I have suffered with Sciatic Rheuma
tism, which the best physicians were un
able to relieve. I took many patent
medicines but they did not seem to
reach my trouble. I gradually grew
worse until I was un
able to take my food
or handle myself in
any way; I was abso
lutely helpless. Three
bottles of S.S.S. re
lieved me s. hat I
iwas soon able move
my right arm; uefore
long I could walk
across the room, and
when I had finished one dozen bottles
was cured completely and am as well as
ever. I now weigh 170."
A Real Blood Remedy
S.S.S. cures Scrofula, Cancer, Eczema,
and any form of blood troubles. If you
have a blood disease, take a blood medi

St. John's, N. P., March 30. The
steamer Mastiff, was crushed In an lco
floe oft Gross Island on March 1H, and
tho bottom was torn out of her by tho
bergs. Tho crew, with boats and pro
visions, left tho ship and escaped on
the Ice floe, where they spent 48 hours,
nearly every man being frost bitten,
most of them severely. There wore 185
men In tho Mastiff's crow.
The Ice broke up the first night, and
a large party of men was plunged into
the water. All escaped with their lives,
but their misery was greatly Increased
by their misfortune. Tho second night
12 went Insane, but by great exertions
on the part of the captain and the of
ficers these unfortunates were kept
under oottigol and employed In various
tasks.
Shelters were made under tho up
turned boats for those who were most
seriously frostbitten, but many lives
would have been lost if they had not
been rescued before tho third nlcht.
During the forenoon of the 17th the
steamers New Foundland, Neptune
and Walrus appeared, and speedily
transferred the castaways to their
decks. When rescued many fainted
from pure Joy. Others became crazed
and begarr to rave.
It Is feared that many must lose their
limbs. Arrangements are now making
to provide hospital accommodations
for the survivors when they arrive
here.

Miss Ilnrton tn Return to Cnbn.
New York, March 30. Stephen E.
Barton, chairman of the central Cuban
relief committee, and Charles A.
Schleren, treasurer, have returned
with the state department and Miss
Clara Rarton. With reference to the
dlfllculty said to exist between Miss
Barton and Louis Klopseh Mr. Bar
ton said: "You may state positively
that no difference between Miss Barton
and Mr. Klopseh has arisen. Miss Bar
ton will return to Cuba just as soon
as she can finish the private business
that called her home."

Chronic kickors tho kidnoys whon they're

What makes tho kidneys sick? A siniplo
thing.
Thoy have too much to do.
Must keep up their work, thoy uovor rest.
Cau't blame them for kicking.
Ever have your kidneys kick?
Ever hare a bad back, a lamo, weak or
aching ono?
Know it's tho samo thing?
The back aches because tho kidneys are
blocked.
Help the kidneys with their work.
Tho back will ache no moro.
Lots of proof that Doan's Kidney Pills do
this.
It's tho best proof for it comes from Shea
andoah. Citizens read this caso in point :
Mrs. Morgan Hopkins, of 210 Wost Lloyd
street, says just what all others say who
hayo used Doan's Kidney Pills. "I hayo
nad much troublo with my back and kid
noys. I used Doan's Kidney Pills after
tryiue other standard romcdies, prescriptions
and home remedies and found thorn most
satisfactory. I told my husband that tncy
did me moro good than any other medicino I
had yet taken. I did not sleep well and had
hot pains in tho top of my head and was
tired and despondent all tho time. I could
not shake it off. When I learned of Doan's
Kiduey Pills I procured them from Kirlin's
Pharmacy and I can sincorcly reeomniond
them from backache. I will not bo without
thorn in tho future for I owe to thorn tho
greatest relief from my kiduoy troublo that
I over had."
