The Philadelphia and Heading railway
will run an excursion to Atlantic City, on

The secretary's report shorn the total
membership of the ordor in the state to be
neat 4,000. The increase in membership
during the past year wa it per cent. The
treasurer's report shows that $1,000 In bene

camps. The total amount of funds in the
treasuries of subordinate cfliuiw is close to
80,000.

Narrow Usenpe From Dentil.
A distressing accident occurred at the
Maple Hill colliery about 11:30 o'clock this
morning. The victim is George Bernisb, a
miner aged 32 years, residing at Mabauoy
City. He had just fired a blast, and was re
turning to realize ite effects when a largo
piece of top coal looscuod aud fell
upon him, plutilug hliu to the ground,
breaking his left anklo. Ono cud of the
lump struck him abovo tho leftoyo, inflicting
a wound several inches iu length aud almost
forcing the oye out of tlio socket, and frac
turing the basal bono. His head was bent
almost back to his heels, in which position lie
was compelled to endure tho agony for some
time until ho could -bo extricated. His
partner narrowly escaped boiug buried under
the fall.

last evening tho task was completed
aud water flowed for tbo first timo into tho
opening. Tho flow of tho water is cou
trolled at tbo end of this opening. When
this portion of the work has been fully com
pleted it is intended to proceed further in
this direction of the old Gleudon workings
whore there is an another immeuse body of
water to bo tapped, and where miuing will
oo renowcu. mis will add an immenso
territory to tho present mining area.

Shamokln, Pa July 22. Two mine
fatalities occurred here yesterday. In
an explosion of gas at the Glrard mine
Frank Sheridan, an engineer, suffered
a compound fraoture of the skull which
afterwnrd caused hts death. John LSu
lilne, driver boy, and John Francis,
door boy, vere painfully burned.
Sheridan was married only four weeks
ago. A fall of coal at tho Itlchards
mine killed Wallace Anton, aged 31
years. ,
A Sllfiiit Fire.
A slight fire occurred in tho rear of tho
dry goods store of tbo Misses Davis, at tho
corner of Centre and Jardin streets, this
afternoon. While at work tlio young ladles
noticed a lace curtain in flames, and several
neighbors extinguished them. It Is a mystery
how tho curtain caught, and tho proprietress
cannot account for it.

Houghton, Mich., July 22. Several
hundred miners from Ohio and Penn
sylvania bituminous coal districts have
reached here in the past few days In
search of work, and report that thou
sands more are coming. It is true that
the local mines are working more men
than ever bofore, at the highest wages
paid east of the Hooky mountains, but
there are already 2,000 idle men In the
district, and the prospjects for coal
miners securing employment here are
small.
