Beyond the fart that the general dellclenoy appro priation bl.l probably will be passed, and that the senate will Htatid ready to tnke up the taiifr bill at any time that a report may be brought In by he conference committee, little can be predicted of the course of events In tlje senate during the present week. The disposition is to do little In the way of general legislation, and there Is a pro position under consideration by the leaders of the two sides of the rham ber to adopt the plan now In vogue In the house for sitting only overy third day after the deficiency bill shall have been disposed of. This suggestion has been made In view of the possibility of the pressure to take up the matter f the appointment of a currency com mission. The general Impression about the senate Is that the house will pass such a bill on this subject as the presi dent may recommend, but there Is no probability that the senate will take the matter up seriously. The desire Is to make this intention clear by Infre quent meetings. There are. however. Borne matters on the executive calendar demanding at tention, and there may be an effort to clear this calendar oft during the week. If such should prove to be the case, there would be more or less discussion In executive session over the McCord, Warner and Goodnow nominations, The friends of tho Hawaiian annexa tion trpntv on the foreign relations committee also hope to be authorized report a ratification resolution at their meeting next Wednesday, but It Is by no means certain that the com mittee will be able to reach an agree ment so soon. Today Is being devoted to the general deficiency bill, particular attention be ing given to the provision for the pur chase of armor plate at $125 per ton. This portion of the bill will be eorlously antagonized, and qulto fiercely debated Senator Harris, of Kansas, will en deavor to get up his resolution regard. Ing the reorganization of the Union Pa cific railroad during the week, but in this he will be opposed, and It Is not likely to succeed. The tariff conferrees confidently ex pect to bring In the tariff bill by Thurs day. The length of the debate on the report will depend upon how well the senate conferrees mayhave succededln maintaining the Integrity of the senate bill. The Democrats and other oppo nents of the bill make no secret of their Intention to oppose the adoption of the report If It appears that the amend ments which they were Instrumental In securing, putting cotton bagging, cot ton ties, burlaps, parls green, etc., on the free list have been receded from. The senate will Insist upon final ad journment as soon as the tariff Is dls poed of. The house will adjourn from today until Thursday. Its course thereafter will depend on the condition of tho tar iff bill. Mr. W. II. Smith, editor of Tho Argus. Benton, l'u., recommends a remedy for diarrhoea which lie lias used with magical effect. Neither a man nor a woman can have an attractive person ality who suffers from ill health. If it were not for disorders of the digestive organs, nine tenth of the medical books In the world could be safely destroyed. Not only the minor maladies, but the majority of seriom diseases have their inception in a disorder, e.d digestion. Consumption Is undoubtedly the most deadly enemy with which man. kind has to contend. I.ikc all other wast ing diseases, it ha its origin in disorders of the digestive organs. As a result of these disorders, the appetite falls off; the Hfe-glv-Ing elements of the food are not properly assimilated; the blood becomes thin and im pure; and all the tissues of the body are itit- fierfectly and Improperly nourished; the lings become clogged with Inert, half deai tissues that offer an attractive soil for the Invasion- of the germs of consumption. It has been said thousands of times that con sumption is incurable. It is not. Ninety-eight per cent, of all cases of con sumption are cured by Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery. It corrects all disorders of the digestive organs, Invigorates the liver and makes the appetite keen and the assim ilation perfect; it makes new blood, pure blood, and lots of it. It builds new and healthy tissue. It is the great flesh-builder. It acts cMrectly on the lungs, driving out all Impurities and disease germs. Thousands Vave testified to its merits. It is the one disease that physicians can not cure; their mercurial aud potash remedies only bottle up the poison in the system, to surely break forth in a more virulent form, resulting in a total wreck of the system. Mr. 1'rank II. My mouth was filled with eating sores; my tongue was almost eaten nwav. so that for three months I was unable to taste any solid food. My hair was coming out rapidly, and I was in a horrible fix. "Ijontlon In 1900" Is to be the rallying cry of Chrln llan Endenvorers for the next three yearn. It Is the ambition of Prc-ddent Clark nml I1I11 inllllons of follower to show the old world BometlilnfC of the strength of their organization. Nash ville has already been chosen as the place of meeting In 18BS, and at the an nual meeting of ofllcers tomorrow morning the selection of n convention ctty of 1899 will he considered, but the question may not be settled then, for the offers of a number of places are to be considered. Denver has put in 11 strong bid, and both St. Louis and Cin cinnati are anxious to have the young Christians visit them. All that can bu said now Is that the matter Is unset tled and all applicants have an equal chance of success. Sunday morning dawned with a cloudless sky, the atmosphere not cold or In the least too warm for physical comfort. Never before has the Cali fornia climate received so effective an advertisement, tor, as though ordered for convention work, the weather has been perfect every day since the arrival of the delegates and the thousands who came In their wake. The visitors are already beginning to depart, but It will be more than another week before the city will resume Its normal appear ance, for the decorations will remain, and many of the strangers have an nounced their Intention of spending Beveral weeks In this vicinity. All of those who attended the various state rallies Saturday night are enthusiastic In their expressions of delight. After tie Informal receptions they were liter ally loaded down with flowers and fruits by their numerous guests. This has been a busy day for the members of the organization. Many meetings have been held, all, however, of a devotional character, business af fairs not Interesting the Endeavorers op the Sabbath. The topic for the early morning prayor meeting was prayer for church services and pastors. Nearly every church found It necessary to close the doors before the beginning of the ser vices, so great waB the throng of ear nest worshippers. At the regular morning services of worship the pulpits of all the Protes tant evangelic churches In the city ex cept the Emanuel Baptist, the scene of the Durrant murder, of which Itov. J. G, Gibson Is pastor, were filled by prominent preachers from all parts of the world. Mr. Gibson Is a Christian Endeavorer, yet did not offer his pulpit to guests of the local societies. The gathering of the day was the afternoon meeting In Mechanics' Pa- villlon, presided over by President Clark. "In the Interest of the Lord's Day" was the general theme of a series of eloquent addresses, which rank among the host of the convention. Thousands who sought admittance to the auditorium lingered regretfully In the streets long after the "No more room" sign was hung outside. The usual song service, conducted by Rob ert Husband, of San Francisco, was followed-by devotional exercises led by the Rev. A. D. Klnser, of Lyons, la. A True Remedy. W.
