Their mercurial and potash remedies may In some cases impart temporary relief, but are sure to ultimately result in wrecking the entire system. Rheumatism is a deep-seated blood disease and only a real blood remedy will have any effect whatever upon It. Most of the so-called blood reme dies are at best only tonics and can not reach an obstinate blood trouble, nut. nf Mm inrmt frennent Bvmotoms of rheumatism is a tingling sensation of the parts allectca, generally Drongiu about from a lack of free circulation of the blood through the very small blood conductors. This trouble is al ways eliminated by the use of S. S. S. it thins the blood, gives it a free and forcible circulation, destroys the pois onous microbes and restores the circu lation to Its normal condition. Mr. Robert H. King, a prominent and Influential citizen of west Point, Va., writes of his experience with this dread disease: "About five years ago I was a great sufferer from rheumatism. I was treated by all the leading physician Mr. Robert H. Kino. In the state, but without relief. In fact, my sufferings grew worse dally, until I despaired of ever being cured. "I had been In this wretched condi tion for many months and was almost a complete wreck, when I first read the advertisement of S. S. S. Having tried a dozen or more 'rheumatic cures' and 'blood remedies' with no success, I was almost hopeless, but decided to give your medicine a trial. I did so, and in a few weeka.it had made a permanent cure of me. I was soon a well man and have never had a touch of rheuma tism to this day. S. S. S. Is indeed a wonderful medicine, and I shall ever recommend it to all sufferers from this worst of blood diseases." S. S. S. stands out distinctly to it self as a real blood reuiedjvand for half a century has been curing obsti nate and deep-seated blood diseases which other medicines fail to reach. S. S. S. is not a drug store preparation and no druggist can offer a substitute for it. It is guaranteed purely vege table, and contains not a particle of potash, mercury, or any other product of the chemist's shop. S. S. S. never fails to cure Rheuma tism, Eczema, Cancer, Scrofula, or any other disease of the blood, it matters not what other treatment has failed. Bob Fltz slmniuns and his party left the house at Cook's ranch shortly after 9 o'clock this morning, and drove directly to the arena. With him ware Julian, Hlckey, Stelincr and Hoeber. Louts Houseman, of Chicago, will be timekeeper. Upon his arrival at the arena FUzslmmons went directly to his dressing room, nnd after a rub down he began dressing for the fight. He will wear black show and green silk tights. Around his waist he will have a belt of red, white and blue silk, the tielt havinK In its center an eagle with wings outspread. The belt will, however, be taken off as soon as the time for the fight arrives, and Pltz Simmons will fight In the green tights alone. Soon after Pltzslmmons oame Cor bett, accompanied by Brady, White, Delany, AlcVey and Joe Corbett, and went at once to his dressing room. He will wear no lights, fighting in short white trunks and white shoes. He will wear Into the ring tho-red, white and blue belt with green trimmings, made for him by hla wife, but will lay It aside before the call of time. Charlie Mitchell has sent a challenge to the winner, having deposited 00 with the London Sporting Life to bind the match. A challenge of the same kind has been made on behalf of Joe Goddard and John L. Sullivan, and it is likely that the winner may be chal lenged by Peter Maher, "Denver Ed" Smith and Tom Sharkey. It la not at all likely that either man wiHkPay any attention to the ohallenges. There Is much money in the fight besides the purse that has been offered, and neith er man Is prepared to throw away the chance of making money by exhibi tions and theatrical enterprises that will be his for a year at least after the fight. The trouble over the demand made by Martin Julian for a third of the receipts from the exhibition of all pho tographs of the fight has been ad Justed, and there Is now no possible obstacle in the way of the fight being pulled oft. The matter of choice of corners was decided last night by a "toss up." Cor bett won the toss. He chose the south' west corner of the ring, wishing to get the sun at his back, leaving Fltzsim mons no choice but to take the north east corner. Ex-Senator Ingalls, of Kansas, came In yesterday wearing a troubled look. "I have never been to a prize fight," he said to a reporter, "but I want to see one before I die." Mr. Ingalls is trained down to his usual fineness, and did not take up much room in the traveling suit and box overcoat In which he reached tho scene. He said on his arrival that he did not know much about prize fight ing, either in theory or practice. But he-was very willing to learn, and ac cepted an invitation to visit Corbett's quarters. The ex-senator looked as though he rather regretted the trip when ushered Into the smoky barroom at Shaw's Springs, filled as It was with brawny, strong Jawed devotees of tho game, who stared suspiciously at the gentleman from Kansas. There was little chance for escape, howover, and he followed iis escort Into Corbett'3 parlor, where introductions ensued. "How do you do, Mr. Corbett?" said Mr. Ingalls. "I hope your folks are all well." "Out of sight, old man," said tho champion, as ho shook the ex-senator's arm Into a state of partial paralysis. "Glad to see you." "I Intend to see the match tomorrow, and I thought I would come out and see you," said the ex-statesman. "I do not know much about this branch of gymnatlcs." "I'll be glad to post you, senator," replied Corbett. "What can I tell you?" "Well, for instance, how hard are you allowed to hit your opponent?" asked ex-Senator Ingalls, with evident re tvn of courage. "As hard as you can punch," was the answer, amid a general laugh, which again disconcerted the questioner. But he was game, and led back with an other query. "But," he asked, "how much does It count when you hit the other man? I don't know much about the score." That floored Corbett, and to cover his visitor's confusion he began a little rapid work with the dumbbells. Mr. Ingalls hastily retreated to a far corner of the room, from which he viewed the work with ovident admiration. Mr. Ingalls soon drove baok to town, where he met Governor Sadler, and the two walked to Dan Stuart's big arena. "Dear me," said the ex-senator as he stepped on the ring platform. "What a big place. Why. this beats the na tional conventions all to pieces, does'nt It? Prize fighting must be quite a lu crative enterprise to Justify such splen did preparations. I am quite glad I came." Governor Sadler was delighted with his visitor's enthusiasm, and took him to dinner at the executive mansion. During the evening Mr. Ingalls met "Parson" Davis, Muldoon, Tom Shar key, Professor Donaldson and many ether men prominent in pugilistic cir cles, and appeared to enjoy himself Immensely. The river continues to rise slowly. Ttvo lives are known to have been lost yesterday. Two nejrroes who live near Marlon, Ark.', attempted to cross Mound lake In a dugout, when they were caught In the current, their boat capslilng, and they were swept away. The change In the situation has been decidedly for the worse In every respect, o far as the flood and the flood victims are con cerned. Localities that were expected up to the last moment to withstand the overflow are at last under water. People who thought they were safe from the angry river find themselves hemmed In, and their danger is the greater because of the confidence that prevented them from providing against It. From every direction come reports of unprecedented disaster. At Marlon and in the adjacent country 400 people are reported to be llrred up on the rail road track, over which occasional waves sweep and threaten to carry off the people and live stock that there find a precarious foothold. Along the other railroads leading out of this city Into Arkansas a similar condition of affairs exists. Down on President's Island, where It was supposed that all persons In danger had been carried off, it was learned that from B0 to 100 people were last evening standing In the water and praying for the sight of a boat that would take them off. The steamer Harbin was at once sent to their relief. The Abbott and Itaska are looking after Island Forty, and the O. B. Bryan, the Minnehaha and the Wel oome are running far up beyond Mar lon. Barges are oarrled wherever neces sary. Nearly 1,000 people have been brought to this city already from the overflowed country. Only a few of these are white, and they have been able to take care of themselves upon arriving, as well as to extend a hand to the negroes. But most of the ref ugees are negroes, who saved nothing but the olothes on their backs, and in cases some' stock, the latter being an incumbrance rather than an assistance In the matter of finding food and ac commodations in town. But the citi zens' relief committee have found places to houBe the refugees, and food is furnished them from time to time. Yesterday a quartet of ladles arrived on the levee with provisions. The sub stantial food put new life Into the dis consolate negroes. Many rumors of wholesale drown ings are current, but these cannot be verified. A well defined report readi ed here Monday night that five col ored people had perished near Marion, and a colored man and child are known to have been drowned at "West Memphis. The conditions are such that there will undoubtedly be innum erable fatalities unless the helpless are relieved. Great throngs gather at the levee. It was almost impossible to reach the Bryan wharf boat when ,she pulled in from Marion yesterday. There are many other points from which come appeals for aid. It may easily be understood, therefore, that the relief committee which has been established in this city has its hands full of work. This work Is being look ad after without delay. Alt the local river craft have been requisitioned for this duty, and Captain Fitch, in charge of the United States fleet, has placed every steam vessel and barge under his command at the disposal of the committee. At Helena the river rose very slowly, standing at 45.8 feet, two inches below high water mark. In the vicinity of Helena rain came down In torrents all Monday night, and yesterday. The steamer Maud left there late yester day afternoon for Modoo with a crew of 40 laborers, where the government .boat Lillian, with a crew, are sacking the levee. The water at Modoc was within about 18 inches of the top of the levee at last reports. From Island Forty come reports that the water is everywhere, and that hu man beings and dumb brutes are hud dled together wherever shallow water offers standing places. The people In and around Marion, Ark., are certain that in the woods to the rear of Marion there has been great loss of life. There was a rumor to the effect that several nesrroes had been drowned In attempting to get to a place of safety, but neither names nor facts could be learned. The Memphis and St. LouIb packet, Mary Morton, arrived in port yester day, and reports extending relief to flood sufferers below Cairo. Something over a hundred men and children and a quantity of live stock were picked up arid carried to Fulton. From all ac counts there Is great suffering in the distrlots mentioned, and aid is being ayked of the cltlsens of Cairo, At Greenwood, Miss., the Yazoo river is rising very rapidly, and the lowlands are now covered with water. The Tal lahatchie and Yaloburha, which flow Into the Yazoo three miles above Oreenwood, are reported to be higher than ever before known. The Tennessee river at Florence, Ala., is still booming, the gauge regis tering the highest mark reached since 1H86. The water is still rising half an Inch an hour. A further rise of two feet is anticipated. The levee road Is In danger of being swept away.
