A force consisting of a regiment of Infantry, battery and artillery em bilked at Plraeua Saturday on board three steamers. There wu a scene of tn-eat enthusiasm before the-departure of the troops. Crown Prince Constan tino, the Duke of Sparta, reviewed the men, and addresBlng them said: "Offi cers and men, remember where you are go.nft, and that ou are Hellenes. The troops then mai-lied past In the presence of the quen, the crown prin cess and an Immense crowd. The crown prince, with his staff, was at the head of the men, and conducted them to the railway station at Athens, en ruute for the port of Piraeus, tho populace meanwhile cheering for Crete, the army and the royal family. Sim ilar scenes of nthuslasm were also witnessed duilng the embarkation of tho soldiers. The arrival of the trans torts has already been reported from U.e Island of Mllo. All of the Grecian newspapers hall the departure of the troops with expressions of delight. There Is mucli activity at the palace, King George personally directing af fairs connected with the crisis. It is stated that the British admiral commanding in the Cretan waters has orders to prevent any collision at sea between the Turks and the Greeks. Prince George ai rived at Canea on Saturday. He received a vlBli from the commanders of the forelen men-of-war. Later he returned to Mllo with the flotilla. The foreign ministers nt Athens met nt the Frenoh legation for the purpose of considering the situation. It is be lieved that they decided to address further representations to the Grecian government, which, replying to their recent statements, declared that the government, having full knowledge of the situation, had not hastened to as sume the whole responsibility for the measures it had taken. The Greek conBul also embark ed on board another vessel. Tho Turks, from the fortress, replied to tho fire of the Christians. The fighting was attended with bloodshed. Tho military governor has been removed from his post. The foreign consuls also embarked on board the various vessels lying oft the town of Canea. The Greek consul at Herakllon went on board the Greek warBhlp Nauar chos Miaulls. The Christians at Her akllon are also hurrying on board the ships. Fighting ocourred around Ha lepa Saturday. After a brisk fusillade the Turks dislodged the Christians and occupied Akrotiri hills. The Frenoh consul was obliged to quit his country house at Halepa and return to his of ficial residence at Canea. The report Is current here that the Turkish authorities, considering that resistance to the cause of the Chris tians In Crete Is hopeless, have request ed tha foreign commanders to ccupy the town. The commanders of the men-of-war have re-erred the bubj. t matter to their respective governments end asked lor Instructions. The residence of the consuls was in a state of great trepidation Saturday, owing to the approach of the Insur gents, who, joined it is stated by Greek volunteers, assembled lrt great force on Akrotiri peninsula, made an ad vance in the neighborhood. The Hel lenic flag was hoisted on the arrival of the Greek warships, and was dis played on the summit of an adjoining hill. All of the members of the families of the consular agents were transfer red to the warships. The Greek con sulate was garrisoned, with an lmpres- Uatve show of force, by native Christiana and sailors in anticipation of an at tnok from the Mohammedans from the vicinity of Canea. The Mohammedans at Canea were in a stata of extreme excitement, and owing to rumors of afi intended attack upon the consulates at Canea special precautions were taken at the offices of the British consul. About 400Baehl Bazouks and a company of regulars hurried out from Canea and attacked the Christians. The Christiana were finally repulsed, and pursued into the Interior of the peninsula. Subsequently tha bishop of Canea Invoked the aid of the consul. The governor demanded a written assurance from the consuls that the Greek fleet is not to molest the trans port conveying troops to Sltla. This transport was compelled to return Fri day by the firing from a Greek war ship. This assurance was given, with the further pledge to prevent Greek warships from bombarding the town, provided the Mohammedan population would abstain from acts of violence. .CHASES BloodHerveFood For Weak and Run Down People.
