gout forcos. Ho fought the insurgents in
eight soparato engagements, and thon re
turned to San Miguol, to tho north of
Cnscorro, whoro he got into now and hot
fights with tho Insurgents, who dovclorod
In moro numerous forco than over under
Gomoz, Calixto Garcia, Cobreco and other
loaders. Cistollano, according to reports
received, swept tho opposing Insurgents
with heavy loss. .
Those reports also stato that tho insur
gents havo plundered nnd entirely do
Btroyod tho town of Gualmur, to the south
of Cnscorro, and It Is said that tho old
Spnnlsh residents taken prisoners who
would not pay a ransom were all shot.
Calixto Garcia and Maximo Gomez con
centrated all tho forcos from Santiago de
Cuba, Las Tunas and Camaguay, num
bering 8,000 of all arms with tuo Intention
of attacking tho city of Puerto Prlnclpo,
