The Defeated Cniidldute Itoldt Out llnpo
fur the Future. j
Lincoln, Neb., Nov. 7. Mr. Bryan has
replied to some of tho offers of employ-1
ment at high salarlos which ho has re
ceived since election day, declining on tho
ground that he desires to bo free to devote
n largo portion of his time In the future to
tho advocacy of bimetallism. Ho has
agreed to address n public meeting in
Denver at an early day, but beyond this
has mado no engagements for tho Immedi
ate future.
Mr. Bryan yesterday gave out nn ad
dress to tho bimetalllsts of tho United
State, In which he says:
"The friends of bimetallism havo not
been vanquished, thoy have simply been
overcome. Thoy believe that tho gold
standard Is a conspiracy of the money
changers against tho welfaro of tho human
race and until convinced of tholr error
thoy will contlnuo tho warfaroagalnstlt."
Mr. Brynu holds outhopofortho futuro,
saying that "bimetallism has almost tri
umphed In Its first great fight," and pro
ceeds: "No personal or political frlond noed
grieve booauso of my defeat. My ambition
has been to secure Immediate legislation
rother than to onjoy the honors of olllco.
Therefore, defeat brings to mo no fooling
of personal loss. Spoaklng for the wlto,
who has shared my labors, as woll as for
myself, I deslro to say that we have boon
nmply repaid for all that we havo dono.
"In the love of millions of our follow
citizens, so kindly expressed In knowlodgo
gained by porsonal contact with tho poo
ple, and in broadened sympathies, we find
full compensation for whatover efforts wo
havo put forth. Our hearts havo been
touchod by tho dovotlon of friends, and
our lives shall prove our appreciation of
the affection which wo prize as the rich
est reward which this campalgu has
