who should havo remained nt Spring Pnrk
for orders and lot tho accommodation

Tho oxeurslon train was tho second sec
tion of a spocial bound for St. James, Mo.,
100 miles wost of St. Louis, whero tho
Missouri Homo for Aged Veterans was
dedicated yosterday under tho auspleos of
tho G. A. 11. and Woman's Hcllef corps.
Tho llrst soctlon had gono through safely,
nnd tho second, which consisted of cloven
coaches heavily laden with G. A. H men,
their .wivos and children, loft Sr. Louis
about D o'clock. According to J. I). Dish
man, tho telegraph operator nnd station
agent at Spring Park, it should have
stopped at that place. Instijad of doing

Was not aware that tho second section was
on tho rond. and in trying to mako tho
switch at Klrkwood crashed into tho ill
fated train in a cut. Thero was only ono
car, a combination baggage and coach,
on Engineer Hohl's train, but tho col
lision was torrlllc, both engines being de
molished and a number of tho cars tole
Bcopod. Tho wrockage was pllod high on
tho track, and abovo tho sound of escap
ing steam could bo hoard tho crlos of the
frightened and Injured passengors.

freshments. Barnoy MoKonna was In
charge of tho cdiblos, and with him was
his 14;year-old daughter Maud. Both wore
Instantly killed, being scalded and crushed.
A numbor of passengors, mostly young
men, woro grouped around tho temporary
counter, oatlngand drinking. Almost nil
woro either klllod or Injured. This and
tho noxt car, In which woro sovtnty pas
pengors, Buffered tho worst damage, and
most of tho klllod and lnjurod wore tnkon
from them. Knglneer Hohl, of the ac
commodation, which was running on
tlmo, was killed and his llromnu, Frank
Uusleor, wounded.
