A lamp exploded in the saloon of Josciih

flames from doing much damage.

A largo cave-iu occasioned by tho workings
of tho St. Nicholas colliery took place last
night and carried down an area of surface
13 feet long and 150 feet wido. Tho breach
is I13 feet deep and several thousand feet of
cut timber went down with tho surface, as
tho all'cctcd part wa in a place us-ed by the
F. & K. C. itl.Co. The breach extends to
the rear parts of houses occupied by James
Kennedy, Fatrick Conner. Mrs. Mary Fur.
long, William lluuiiiugcr and Charles O'Neill.
Tho surface commenced to subside at 11
o'clock last night and continued working
until about 0 o clock tins morning. The
noise mado by the falling timber aroused the
wholo patch at an early hour. The breach is
located about 20 feet from tho F. & 1!. depot.
