The Orchard Will Give Gllbcrton Valley a Boom. The Draper Cut It Yesterday and the OUberton, Lawrence and Stanton Col lieries Will Also Work It-Eight Feet Thick and of a Fine Quality. Tho Draper colliery, in tho Gilborton val ley, is now ono of the best operated by the hlladelphia &. Reading Coal & Iron Coin- any. In 1891 the company erected at the colliery one of tho best hieakers it owus, supplying it with all modem improvements. and corresponding improvements wero made inside the mine during tho six months or idlcnoss. Since thon tho shipments have constantly increased and at present tho main lolsting slopo Is not able to get to the surface all tho coal that is being taken from tho Iluck Mountain, Mammoth, Four Foot and Holmes veins. Yesterday the Orchard vein was cut. Tho coal is of excellent quality eight feet thick nd has only nino Indies of refuso in it. To reach this vein a tunnel was driven 400 feet from tho Four Foot vein, northward, and tho rriniroso vein, containing four feet of good coal, was also cut by tho tunnel. The Orchard dips on an anglo of 40 degrees and at a point 400 feet vertical height from tho surface. Taking tho width of tho basin Into con sideration there is no doubt but that tho veins will go down at least 000 feet vertical icighth and givo tho company three or four lifts of coal for a mile in length; and will crowd tho breaker, which has a capacity of 00 cars per day, to its utmost. Several ilaus havo been suggested for hoisting tho coal expected from this source, but none havo yet been accepted. It is believed that either a new slopo will bo sunk, or tho vein will bo worked from tho present subter. ran can slopo and the hoisting slope. Tho Gilborton colliery, located on tho north sido of tho basin, will bo equally benefited by yesterday's penetration of the Orchaid vein. Both collieries aro operated by the Philadelphia and Heading Coal and Iron Company and ure on the Gilbert and Sheafer Estate. Tho Lawrcnco and old Stanton collieries join them on tho western boundar ies. Tho latter collieries aro worked by the estate aud it is intended to immediately drive a tunnel to cut tho Primrose and Orchard veins. These veins havo never been worked in tho Gilberton valley and up to tho present time were an unknown quantity. Shul.o oir JtheunmtLm mid Neuralgia Hub well with lied Flag Oil, 23c.
