As soon as tho men, ono of whom was
tall, tho other short, wero out of tho olllco
Ilopko dashed Into tho shop to glvo the
alarm to tho sevonty-flvo workmen em
ployed there, whllo O'Hourko pointed his
revolver nt them and pullod tho trigger,
but tho weapon failed to oxplodo. I'rosl

shot at tho robbers as ho ran along behind
tho buggy, but nono of them took effect.
Tho "short" man standing up In tho
buggy also Ilred both his revolvers, nnd
whon tho chambers woro empty ho re
loaded. Tho "long" man, who had thrown
his revolvers Into tho bottom of tho buggy,
paid no attention to tho shooting, but
kept on driving tho horso at a terrific rate
of speod. A largo crowd was after them
In a fuw minutes, nnd by the time tho rob
bers turned into Thirty-sixth street they
wcro confronted by a crowd of fully a
a hundred men. Tho pursuers steadily
increased, until a crowd of several hundred
pcoplo followod closo bohlnd. Men in
wagons nnd bleyclo riders by tho score
took up tho chase, but tho robbers' horso
was a good 0110 and outran all of them.
In a short tlmo tho patrol wagon from
tho Brighton Park police station was upon
tho sceno, and although tho thlevoshadn

At Thirty-sixth street and California ave-
nuo tho buggy toppled over anil throw tno
robbers into tho Btreet. Tho patrol wagon
wns not far behind at this tlmo, and It wa
thought thoy would surely bo captured.
Tho thlovos, however, quickly picked
themselves up nnd ran to drand avenue
Near tho corner blood Frank Nyhoft's
milk wagon, and tho robbers leaped in.
Tho short man drow a small revolver and
fired ono shot nt Nyhoft, tho bullet taking
effect in his right leg above tho kuco. Tho
robbers whlppod up tho horso, which wns
a splrltod ono, and up to a Into hour had
not beon captured.
Later tho horso and wagon of tho milk
man wero found standing in an alley. In
tho bottom of tho tippod over buggy were
found two dark false beards, a blonde wig
nndfourblg revolvers used by tho robbers.
