court hud to bo suspended.
Thu number of minor cnsunlltles nnd In

ports nru constantly being received. Over
fifty Injured huvo thus far been reported
to one lire station alono, nnd Uvo badly In
jured wero brought In. Several man nnd wo
men had tholr skulls fractured by tho fall
ing of sortie gntu buhlnd which they had
sought shelter from tho storm. A cab
driver who had taken refuge In his cab
was killed nnd tho cnb demolished. His
horses wero also killed. Kino members of
tho htnff of La France, who wero leaving
the Tribunal do Commerce when tho
storm suddenly broke, wero all seriously
injured, ouo having Ids skull fractured.
At least a dozen persons wero carried
bodily into tho Seine from tho bridges and
quays, and wero rescued with great diffi
culty, suveral being Injured and left in a
critical condition, so that they had to be
taken to the hospitals.
The breaking of tho storm was accom
panied by many demonstrations of fright
by individuals and crowds, the panic of
ouo sproading to others, tho lowering sky
and tho howling of tho tempest, filling the
nlr with Hying debris, frightening the
crowds In tho streets out of self control.
Kverybody sturtod to run, without much
rogard to obstaclos, persoiwl or otherwise,
that might come in their way, and thero
was shouting and screaming to add to tho
confusion. '
The daimigcto projierty wns widespread
and serious. Tho first tempest of wind,
which did mint of tho damage, was iinme
dititely succeeded by torrents of rain, and
cellars all over Paris aro Hooded.
At Clichy, the roadway of tho Doule
vnrd Xatloiinl, sudsidod several yards as a
rosult of tho wnshlngnway of tho roadbed.
Tho Qunl des Orfovres shows a striking
scene of desolation, buildings being dam

ns though swept by n torreut of rushing
water.
From tho Qunl St. Michael to beyond
tho Font Xuef every tree was uprooted,
many barges wero sunk and a number of
small boats wero swamped. The crows of
tho barges, however, succeeded In escap

where thirty lnundres-.es wero at work,
was sunk, and tho jvo.ucu wero saved with
tho greatest dUKuulty.
Tho hcalloldliig of the court yard of tho

pane lot glass in tho sldo of tho palace of
justice, facing tho river, was smashed by
uprooted trees, etc.
All tho omnibuses struck by tho cyclone
wero upfot and their pas.iongers more or

Tho cyclouo lasted only about u mlnuto,
but in addition to the damage already
mentioned considerable, destruction wns
caused on and about tho Pont Xuef, tho
Placo du Chatelet, tho Obervntoire, tho
Tour St. .Taciiuu und elsewhere lu the
neighborhood.
Numerous newspaper kiosks wero over

of tho Opera Combine was blown in. T,ho
Amblgu-Comlquo and the Folios Dramntl
ques theaters wero both dnmnged. Twenty
lilno horses wero killed. KIght beer houses
were wrecked.
A largo ward In tho Hotol Dion is full
of tho victims, two of whom died last
night, nnd several there and In tho other
hospitnls nre in a precarious condition.
With tho cab driver above reported, this
makes the death list only three thus far.
It Is a curious fact that tho cyclone
chlelly nffoctedtho small area lying around
tho Palais do Justice uud tho Hotel do
Ville. Tho cyclo appeared to bo caused by
two strong currents, from tho northwest
and tho southeast. Tho clouds rushed to
gether, and whirled around as they met
ju-t over this area. Thero was no thunder
and no simultaneous movement at tho
central ob-s;rvatoiy. Tho barometer lu
the Tour St. Jjieques fell suddenly 7,000
jiilllometres.
Tho superstitious nro finding much to
