and their friends, who want to retain tho
present chairman, Sam Loteli and Jack

who claims to havo a nuflicicnt number
pledged to him to secure his election.
Tho contest is an animated one, nnu many
of tho loaders throughout tho county are
talcing an nctivo interest in the fight. Ilrumm
and Coyle arc for l'ayno becauso tho latter
has always been with them lu their fights.

one of these trips it appears, from tho ovid
enco adduced before 'Squire McCormick, of
that place, ho made an indecent assault upon
a young girl by tho iiaino of Katie doling,
who is u servant at tho houso of Stephen
Lear, upon two dilfereut occasions. Tho
ovidem-o was conclusive of his guilt, and tho
'Squiro refused to accept hail. 'Squire Coyle,
of Mahanoy City, however, accepted ball in
tho sum of $500, 'furnished by James Mc
Ginty, for Gebhart's appearance at tho next
term of court.

' An adjourned meeting of tho llorough
Council was held Inst evening to consider the
tax exoneration lists for 1801, prepared by
Tax Collector Scanlan. Tho meeting was
attended hy Messrs, liable, McGuire, James",
Strnuglin, Hand, Iioehni, Kerns and Presi
dent James.
Colloctor Scanlan asked tho following
allowances: Jstward, $1,012.15; 2nd, foS7.85;
3rd, $1,172.71; Ith, $1,213.13; 5th, $805.30; a
total of $."(,-151.50. Tho committees of Council
representing tho respective wards made a
report favoring tho following allowances:
1st ward, $1,535.12; 2nd, $532.00; 3rd,
$1,032.31; 1th, $1,109.59; 5th, $070.12; a total
of 4,1110.00, or a reduction of $502.44 on tho
amount asked by Mr. Scanlan.
It was oventuallyUecidid that the linance
commltteo of Council act in conjunction with
tho finance committee of tho School Board in
making sottlement on tho 1801 duplicate with
tho tax collector.

Tito Mountain Grovo camp meeting, which
has been tho most successful held, in years,

day, with a grand march in which 400 of tho
campers participated. Tho campers all left
for their homes yestorday.

Tho lease lietwccn tho borough and the I'
& It. C. & I. Co., whereby tho former secures
possession of n piece of ground near tho
Iudlan Ridgo colliery for a new dumping
ground, was executed this aftornoon, hut
dumping will not bo permitted on tho
premises until they aro first fenced in, Tho
Supervisor will begin work on tho fenco at
once.
