died last night from diphtheria.
Itlchard Dabb, Sr., died last night at tho
homo of his daughter, Mrs. Louisa Seymour,
in Jackson's patch, from the effects of a stroke
of paralysis sustained on tho Gth inst. lie
bull'ered a stroko about two years ago. Tho
deceased's wife died about 12 years ago. lie
is survived by three children, Itichard Dabl
Jr., tho photographer of town : Mrs. Louisa
Seymour, of Jackson's, anil .Mrs. Elizabeth J
Hide, of Wisconsin. Tho funeral will Like
place to-morrow at 2 p. m.

of the firm of A. Hacharach A Co., of l'lilln
dclphla, brought suit against Thomas II.
Hutchinson, proprietor of tho Ferguson
House, Shenandoah. Tho suit is an action of
trespass and $5,000 damages aro asked. The
plaintiff claims that while ho was nt the
Ferguson House last July ho requested Mr.
Hutchinson to have his baggage taken to tho
detiot so as to be able to leave on an oarly
train for Atlantic City, where ho had an Im
portant business engagement tho noxt morn
ing, This Mr. Hutchinson refused to do.
Mr. Hacharach then cmiiloved n dravmau and
paid his hotel bill, yet .Mr. Hutchinson re
fused to give him Ills trunks until the follow
ing morning. For this Injury nnd loss
Hacharacli has brought suit for tho abovo
amount.

A Undo Cow Thief.
David Dcttrey, who sports about town in
a fashlonahlo light suit of clothes, wears kid
gloves and has otherwise won distinction as a
dude, was arrested at 5 o'clock this morning
by ConsLiblo Holin, of town, nnd Constable
Lcitenbcrgor, of Mahanoy City, at his board'
ing house on North West street, on a charge
of cow stealing. It is not the first time ho
has licen arrested on n chargo of that
character. In tho present case It is alleged
the cow was stolen from a Mahanoy City
party and Uettrey drove the animal to
Shepptoti, Pleasant Hill, Tamaqua, and
incuco 10 Mitnmtt Jtill, wliero tho cow was
sold. The authorities claim to have shadowed
Dettrey closely and they ran show that be
was absent from this town on tho days that
the cow was driven from Mahanoy City to
tho place where it was sold. Dcttrey was
taken to Mahanoy City for a hearing and
committed for trial.

Shot by an Olllccr.
A young man by the name of MorriaSouch,
of Shamokin, was noticed by Coal und Iron
Policeman James Lippiatt riding on a P. & R.
coal train. Ho motioned to him to get oil'
but this tho fellow refused to do, as tho
train was going too fast, and ho feared arrest.
Thinking to tcaro him tho officer pulled out
his revolver und fired, and was surprised to
hear tho man cry out, and roll over on tho
top of tho air. Ho at ouco signalled the
engineer to slow up, when ho boarded the
train and found that tho man was badly
wounded. The bullet struck n piece of iron
on tho car, and glancing struck Sotich
below tho shoulder, coming out of his back.
He was removed to the Miners' hospital,
accompanied by the officer, who feels badly
over the result of his luckless shot.
