others formed a rescuing party. Whitnor

Samuel MoKinnoy wus also saved by W11K
lnson. After assisting in other rescues
Wilkinson hounl a cry for help from tho
opixisite side of the stream and notwith

Claude Bentty wus another hero of tho
disaster who lost his lifo. He inmlo stren
uous efforts to save Margaret McIClunoy
and Jennie Holmes, and had thorn lodged

fused to leave his woaker companions.
Thoso of the unfortunuto party who wore
rescued were taken from tho brauches of

Wright, tho colored liveryman, while

Murray Hill, was caught by the high
water of Chartiers crook, near Curnogio,

ing station was struck by lightning and
Charles Mitchell, tho engineer, immlyzed.
Ills condition is critical. At Turtle
Crook, a now houso wis struck by light
ning and demolished. Four children, who
had sought shelter in tho house from tho
storm escaped Injury.
In Fayette county, seven bridges wero
washed away between Connellsvlllo and
Unlontown.
At West Nowton, tho building of tho
West Newton -Ground Cement and Lima
cotnpuuy, wore crushed Uko egg shells by
falling debris from tho overhanging cliffs.
At I'eun station a two story houw lwlong
Ing to John Driestadt wus completely de
molished. The finally was not hurt.
Tho greatest duiaage, however, was in
Washington county, which was the scene
of yesterday morning's cloudburst Hun
dreds of bridges havo been washed away,
and tralllo has been suspended on the
Washington and Waytiosburg railroad. In
