After tho murdors Munchs assumed
charge of tho vossol and ordered tho bodies
of tho murdered people taken out 6f tho
cabin and placed In a boat and towed
astern, which wis done. Tho Herbert
Fuller wos then headed for Halifax.
As tho bodlos of tho victims were lifted
out of tho boat many of those who were
present turned away, utiablo to stand tho
sight Decomposition was making rapid
progress. The bodies, which had lain In
tho boat for a wuok, wero wrapped in
white shrouds, which wero soaked in lime,
salt water and blood. It took twonty
minutes to transfer thetn to tho under
taker's wngon, In which they wero driven
to the inorgua
F. H. Munchs, tho passenger on board
tho Fullor, lsdongs In Hobton. lie is a
member of Harvard's class of '(17, and has
been suffering for somo time from pulmo
nary troubles. He had been advised to
take u son. voyuge, and wus going to South
America for recuperation.
In splto of tho secrecy maintained it has
liecn ascertained that Mr. Munchs first bo
como owuro of tho horrible crime when
he went to the captain's room to Inquire
If the coptnlu was ill, Munchs having
been aroused from his sloop by a groan or
a scream. Falling to receivo an answer,
ho entered tho room und found the cap
tain lying on tho lloor covered with blood.
Ho rushed on deck and confronted tho
llrst urn to, who was In charge, with tho
statement that tho captain had been mur
dered. Thomas Brown, tho mate, seemed
much iigitated, undupponrod not to know
what to do.
Munchs then rushed below and oronsod
tho crow. Tho men hurriod to tho cabin,
where tho full extent of tho crlmo was
soon mado known. As tho bodlos lay in
their respectlvo rooms they presented a
horrible sight Mrs. Nash's skull had
lieen split utmost In twain. Tho flngors
of her right hand had boon nltnost cut off.
whilo another blow of the ax had cut off a
section of tho scalp with tho hair attached.
Her husband's head was also split open,
whilo Hramburg had evidently boon killed
with tho poll of tho ax.
Brown nt first denied all knowledgo of
tho murders, but later, from remarks let
full, andpoculiuructions, suspicion pointed
towards him as tho murderer and ha was
placed in irons. Tho man nt tho wheel
was Lahoz. Ho was also HUspoctod of com
plicity, and was Ironed by tho crew.
At the pollco station tho ilrst mate wns
stripped and blood wus found on his cloth
ing. Tho passenger, Munchs, states that
ho saw the ilrst mate como from tho cap
tain's cabin after tho murder. Seaman
Brown lust evening made a statomont to
tho effect that ho suw tho first mate kill
tho captain. Ho heard a noise in tho cap
tain's cabin, and going thither saw tho
first mate murder tho captuin. There was
no mutiny.

sul Ingruhum at Halifax, announcing the
urrival at that port of tho barkontino Her
bert Fuller and asking Instructions ns to
tho disposition of tho persons held under
nrrust, referred the mutter to tho deiiart
ment of justice. If possible tho susiiected
criminals will lie brought to the United
States on tho first vessel clearing for an

miles from town. The dead are: James
Uradloy. wife and four children, and Mrs
Bryant, a widow, and two children. They
lived in a flat along tho Benson creek,
which roso so rapiuly that tho houso was

of tUr danger Mrs. Hryant is a daugh
ter of 'Squire Dan Moore, a candidate for
county judge.
JamosSudduth, a tenant, mado a mirac
ulous escape with his family. Ho live in
Benson Valley. Ho was 11 wakened by tho
storm and discovered that the creek had
swollen and was likely to swoop his houso
away. Ho swam over a mllo and procured
n horse, and tho family mado their oscapo
from tho houso only a tow minutes Iwforo
It was washed away by tho rush Of wutor.
Many people living in Benson Valley left
their houses and waded out through tho
mad waters, only osc-iplng u fow minutes
Iwforo tho buildings wero carried away.
A tramp who was refused lodging by
Jamos Hewlott saved tho llvos of his
family. Ho stopped lu tho lmm, after
word como to tho door and awoke tho
family just in time for them to get out
safely.
The destruction to property in many
parts of Franklin county U complete. Tho
damage is estimated at 100,000 ot the low

Coroner Dohoney last night held an In
quest on tho bodies recovered, and re
turned verdicts of accidental drowning.
They were James Q. Bradley and Emma
T., Ills wife : Elroy Bradley, aged 8 ; Widow
Mollle Bryant and children, Ellison, aged
2, Nora, aged 13, and Thomas Massle, col
ored. The remains of Flora Bradley havo
not been recovered. Dim Moore ran from
tho Bryant house and cried to tho family
to flee for their lives, but they wero too late

nati and Lexington and Short Lino divi
sion of the Louisvillo antl Nashville rail
road Is suspended, and tho Louisvillo and

Twelve Thousand Tailors on Strike.

months of agitation a strike of tho various
organizations constituting tho Brother
hood of Tailors was declared last night,
and becume effective this morning. It In
volves about 12,000 workmen in New York,
Brooklyn and Brownsvilla Tho loaders
among tho tailors have fought hard to
stave off a strike, but at tyst night's moot

and trdered tho strike. It is alleged by the
tailors that wagos have been cut. 20 to 23
