of Randolph, which hud olmost entirely
died out, was stirred to a high pitch last
night when It becamo rumored that tho
colorod peoplo In tho vicinity of Galthors
burg had organized a party and were go
ing to Rockvlllo to lynch R. L. Buxton,
tho rather of tho family that was asanlted,
and of which crlmo Randolph was ac
cused and for which ho was lynched.
As soon us tho authorities wero ap

tuken to prevent n rocurrouco of tho events
of Friday night. Tho doputy sheriff
quietly luf ormod n number of citizens that

told Buxton of his danger, advising him
to leave on tho next train for Washington.
Buxton Foomed quite nervous and oxclted,
but protested against going to Washing
ton. Arrivals from Gnltherslmrg shitod that
tho rumorof thointendod outbreak among
the uogres had reached them, and that a
jxirty of 200 men hud lioen armed and put
rn their guard. They Informed Buxton
that if ho would accompany them bark to
Galthorsbnrg they would guarantee to pro
tect him. Buxton returnod to Gaithers-
hurg, whore ho spent tho night with
friends, guarded by sovural able Ixxlled
men.

which begins on Wodnesdny and continues:

preparing tho program for tho convention
nnd for tho entertainment of tlio Endeav-
orors has boen done by tho local commit-
too, a rom tho enthusiasm winch has boon
apparent all ovor tho country, as disclosed

tenso interest tnken In the convention, it
eocms to bo assured that tho gathering
will be tho greatest of Its kind over hold.

great tents pitched on tho white lot, a
govornmcut reservation just south of tho
president's mansion, a largo hall nnd a

tho principal auditoriums, and at certain
timos meotlngs will bo held simultaneously
in nu. uthor churches will bo utilized for
early morning prayer meotiugsandsmallor
gatherings. Primarily Important as moot
ing places will uo the throo groat tents on
tho white lot, named respectively "Tent
Willkton." "Tent Endeavor" and "Tout
Washington."
Knelt of thoso mammoth stretches of
canvass will hold about 10,000 peoplo. Ap
proximately 8,000 persons can 1 accom
modated In tho setteos for the audience,
whlio on tlio great platform provision will
be made for 1,500 mom All tho audito
riums are docornted with Chrtstlnn En
deavor and United Statos llags, streamers
nnd buntings. In tho fonts are displayed
a number of flags of foreign nations, con
tributed especially for this convention by
Christian Endoavor soclctlos 111 the re
spective countries as an expression of tho
International diameter of tho gathering.
Aside from the interior dooorntions tho
citizens of Washington, particularly tho
merchants, havo entered into tho spirit of
the oonveutlon and joined in making tho
oity attractive by liberal decorations of
their homes and places of busluoss. Shop
windows nro bright with convention col
ors, shields and other devices in colors
bearing tho word "Welcome" are promi
nently displayed, and fronts of stores and
buildings aro draped. Tho government
authorities have lent thoir assistance In
decorating the public iiarks.
A prominent foaturo of this year's con
vention will bo tho great chorus of nliout
4,000 voices which has boon In training for
a long time for tho gathering. Three sec
tions of tho chorus will nssUt in the sing
lug in tho touts, and the fourth body of
1,000 volcos will lie divided among tho
other meetings in the halls nnd churches.
Probably the most Interesting feature in
connection with the full chorus of 4,000
volcos is nn open nlr patriotic song ser
vice. This Is to take place next Saturday
afternoon on tho broad plaza on tho oast
sido of tho United States Capitol building,
Tho llarlne band will loud its assistance.
President Francis E. Clark, I), D of Bos
ton, Is to preside at tho meeting; Hon John
Wannmaker, of Philadelphia, is to make a
brief address, and President Clark is to
present a banner to the local city union
having reported tho best work accom
pllshed during tho year in promoting Chris
ttnn citizenship.
Tho progam for tho meetings of tho con
vention is about completed. In gonornl It
contemplates early morning prayer meet
lugs in the churchos of tho various deuom
inatlons represented from 0:30 to 7:15
o'clock. From 0:30 o'clock until well on
towards noon are to bo held tho meetings
for addrossos, pralso, reports and tho dis
cussion of various topics In tho largo
tents and some of tho largo halls and
churches. In tho afternoon, scattered
throughout tho convention, will bodeuom
inatlonnl rallies In tho several churches.
