Soveral properties belonging to tho P. & K. C. & I. Company and located in tho vicinity of tho corner of Catherine and Lino streets, wero badly damaged yesterday by a caving in of workings in tho Kchley Itun colliery. Fissures from one to threo feet deep and soveral inches wide extend for a distance of about threo hundred yards in a northeasterly direction from Apple alley, across Catherino street aud to tho south side of Lino street. Tho houses effected on tho west sido of Catherine street aro occupied by Patrick Purcell, Peter Smith, Joseph Flock and School Director John T. Leo. Tho Smith and Purcell houses suffered tho most. Nearly tho entire foundation walls of these houses have tumbled into heaps in tho cellars and tho buildings aro kept up by cribbing. Tho Leo aud Flock houses aro in such a condition that tho doors cannot bo locked and it is impos sible to movo many of tho window sashes. At tho southeast corner ol Catherino aud Lino streets aro two P. & B. houses occupied by tho families of Bonjamin Beecher aud John Dolphins aud thoy present a toppling appearance, tho north fouudation walls hav ing dropped about a foot. Tho members of tho Democratic Standing Committeo convened in Centennial Hall this morning to determine upon a timo for holding the primaries and county convention to mako tho ticket for the iall election. County Chairman Lineweaver presided. Tho meeting was a lively ono and several spirited discussions took place, several mem bers of tho committee favoring an early con vention; hut it was ultimately decided to leave tho matter in tho hands of tho execu tive committeo, the understanding being that tho Republican primaries aud convention shall be held first.
