DEFENSE PRESENTS A STRONG CASE The Prisoner Tells of the Difficulty Be tween Himself and William Schwlndt "at the Former's House The Case Goes to the Jury. Special to Evenikq Heualb. PoTTSVILLE, Juno 10. As anticipated from tho character of Congressman Brumm's cross-examination of some of tho Commonwealth's witnesses in tho early stages of tho trial of Theodore Eisenhower for thomurderof John Schwindt, a big light has developed in behalf of tho defendant on tho method by which tho doctors attempted to relievo him. Now York City has her battle of medical experts in tho Flemming poisoning case and Pottsvllle seems destined to havo a contemporaneous battlo of surgical experts. Of the two there is no doubt that tho latter will cxicto the greatest interest in this region. After tho prisoner's brother was allowed to leave tho stand Mis3 Lizzio Keithan, of Shenandoah, was called by the defense and testified tliat in tho morning of tho day of tho shooting Eisenhower, the prisoner, called at Keithau's storo in Shenandoah and pur chased candy for his little boy, who accom panied him. Miss Keithan did not notice anything peculiar about tho man. Mrs. llolderman, of Catawissa Valley, the prisoner's sister, was then called to givo evidence tending to show that the prisoner was not of sound mind. She testified that after tho disturbance at tho Eisenhower homo on August 3rd, and several times after, tho prisoner called at her house and he looked different from what ho did before the trouble. Ho looked sick and wild. At one timo ho was afraid to go out unless she would go with him. He complained of pains in his head afid at times jumped up and said ho would havo to go outside, or his head would hurst. Witness asked him what was the cause and he said his wlfo and daughtorlmd driven It tin out of tho house, that tho wife had gone back on him, was going with other men and had thrown him out. Witnoss also stated that tho pris oner complained of pains in tho head and acted strange eight years ago and from that time she did not consider him of sound mind. On cross-examination Mr. Whaleu succeeded in getting tho witnoss to modify her opinion of tho prisoner's mind to somo extent, but slio insisted to tho last that his actions appeared quite strange to her after tho date of Eisenhower's encounUr in his homo with William Schwindt. At tho present time theie is a strong public opinion that Eisenhower will not be con victed of murder in tho first degree Tho summing up of tho case will bo awaited witli impatience.
