The llorough Council held a special meet
ing last evening for the purposo of consider
ing the exoneration lists submitted and askd
for by Tax Collector Soanlan on tlio '01 dupli
cate. The members from the different wards,
with tho cxccptioii'df tho Fourth, made their
reports, and basing tho latter upon the
amount asked from tlio School Board in that
ward, the total exonerations aro $4,533.37.
Tho School Hoard allowed tho Tax Collector
$3,lS0.7fl. Tho Fiuauco Committeo -was in
structed t consult with Mr, Scnnlan and
ascertain why ho asks a greater number of
exonerations from tho Council than ho did
from tho School Hoard. Mr. lioohm stated
that Superintendent Ash, of tho Schuylkill
Traction Compaay, extended an invitation to
Council to take a trip overlho lino to Ash-
hind for tho purpose of inspecting tho paving
at that place. Tho Council ti ill likely mako
tho trip somo diy next week.

Tho New York Progress Manufacturing
Company is making rapid stridos to tho front
in the manufacture of hats and caps in this
town. The capital of the concern has been
greatly increased which will enable them to
secure better facilities. A large number of
new machiuex will be received this week and
the pay roll will bo largely increased. Tlio
factory now occupies tlio greater part of tho
large building at No. 110 North Whito street.

Many of our readers will regret to learn of
tho accident which befell Miss Drama Lecklo,
of Pottsville, yestorday, who was n former
resident of town. It appears that she was
sitting on the door step at her residenco,
while her sister, Lizzie, wm closing K shutter
on tho hocond floor, which jumpod off its
hinges and fell on her head, rendering her
unconscious, in which condition Bho remained
for several hours. The latest reports from
the physician is, that she is resting well nnd
will shortly recover.
