Tho Almshouse Appropriation.
A petition is being circulated at tho county
seat in opposition to an increased appropria
tiou for tho contemplated improvements at
tho almshouso. Tho Commissioners, by and
with tho consent of the court, appropriated
$73,000 for tho purpose, and upon securing
bids they found that tho lowest bidder was
$15,000 abovo that amount. Tho Commis
sioners wili therefore ask for an increased
appropriation and will consult with tho Stato
Hoard of Charities with that cud in view.
The petitioners object to an increase because,
as they claim, the amount will bo sufficient
if certain ornamental trimmings and other
materials not necessary aro dispensed with.
When a sufficient number of names have
been secured tho petition will bo presented to
court.
