wcro rendered by tho Lithuanian band aud
tho Mahanoy City band which was greatly
enjoyed by thoso presjit. Tho attendance
was so largo that (hero as barely sulliclent
room for tho merry dancers to tip tho light
fantastic. Tho band had as their guests the
Mahanoy City and Mahanoy Piano bands,
who advertised tho event by giving short
street parados.

As an outcome of tho highway robbery case
in which Michael Stanton mid Thomas
Crushanoaro charged with taking a silver
watch and chain from Sperto Jenoso, an
Italian living at Turkey Hun, Paul Wilwlasis,
a Polish saloonkeeper of South Main street,
was arrested by Detective Amour yc-lcrday
afternoon charged with violating the llrooks
high license law by selling liquor on Sunday.
Tho speciiic rhargo Is that Stanton purchased
beer there List Sunday with tho proceeds of
tho watch he stole from tho Italian aud sold
to John Chowonltz. Tho saloonkeeper was
put under $500 ball. Stanton surrendered
Jenoso's chain yesterday.

The celebration of Odd Fellows' day at
Mahanoy City to-morrow will lie on mi
elaborate scale. The local lodges have ex
erted every etlbrt to make the demonstration
surpass anything of the kind yet hold In the
county, and there Is littlo doubt but that
their expectations will be realized. The
decorations are elaborate, aud the arches
lielng orected show the work of ojrpwrts.

it is expected fully 2000 men will he in line.

tered tho house of Jacob Coople, of Lewis-
town, near Tamaqua, and demanded his
money. Upon a refusal tho robbers bound
him and placed a lighted kcroscno lamp
under his feet. Ho was burned and beaten
until ho finally disclosed a trunk containing
$111 nnd a clofct containing $20. llclleving
Cooplo had more money they again tortured
him Until Cooplo was Insensible, and they
departed. His cries wero heard aud ho was
released. Cooplo is a bachelor about G3 years
of ago and is thought to bo wealthy. No
trace of tho robbers has been found.
