Killed Dor Friend and Herself.
Elgin, Ills., April 14. Miss Mary Lin
net, of Chicago, shot and Instantly killed
Miss Ellzaboth Trowbridgo, a prominent
young woman of this city, and thou killed
horself, shortly after 8 o'clock last evon-
lng. The double tragedy took placo on
South Stato street, tho principal resldouco
streot of tho city. Miss Linnet some two
years ago conoolvcd a singular liking for
a young woman In Chicago, a neighbor,
and attempted to tako her llfo because sho
would not llvo with her. She was sent to
the insane hospital hero, and was dis
charged from tho Institution as cured In
Docombor last. Miss Trowbridgo was an
attendant nt tho hospital and hud chargo
of Miss Linnet, who became passionately
attachod to her. Her great regret In leav

ney for Alonzo Walling, indicted with

Judge Helm expects to finish tho trial of

St. Joseph, Mloh., 14. The fishing boat
Olive K. was blown Into the lake by tho

stoum plant. When last seon she was sev
eral miles out on tho lake and driving
northward, apparently unable to make

hour sho had not been heard from.
