Another Attempt at ltobbery.
Another attempt at robbery which was of
no avail was made upon Ferguson's building
last night. Tho ruarrandcrs whoso names
are unknown ransacked the second and third
lloors In search of a quantity of plumbers
tools which wero concealed in the building.
Tho rooms in which tho tools wero supposed
to ho were broken into by taking a panel out
of the door, but tho tools had been taken out
They finally wended their way to tho olllco
of Dr. J. W. Van Valzah, and battered tho
lock to such an extent that ho was obliged to
enter his oilico by means of a window in
order to gain admission. They then pro
eecded to tho saloon of Michael Costcllo, on
tho first lloor, and robbed tho money drawer
of a small quantity of chango. No identity
of tho robbers has yet been found.

Tho Trocadero Specialty Company, at 121
North Main street, is still drawing largo and
enthusiastic crowds. The program Is one
that puts to blush many of tho more preten
tious organizations, and is well worth a visit.

of Irish Valley, and Mrs. Hannah Foster, of
Trevcrtou, mother and daughter, aro in a
remarkable dilemma. Each had a child born
to her in Mrs. Norton's home at tho same
hourto-day, and in his hurry tho physical!
placed both children m tho same cradle,
without paying any attention to whom they
belonged. Now thoy aro mixed and Mrs.
Foster is unablo to tell whether sho is raising
her son or her brother, while Mrs. Norton is
equally bothered to know whether sho is
going to rear her granddaughter or her
daughter. When each mother asked to seo
her child tho physicau was puzzled. They
looked alike, and for tho lifo of him ho could
not determine to whom tho boy belonged
and to whom tho girl. Mrs. Norton proved
generous, however. Sho said that her
family embraced several boys and if her
daughter would llko to havo tho male child
sho would consent. Mrs. Foster agreed.

After Tax Delinquents,
Tax Collector Scaulan and Constablo
Giblon chased four delinquent taxpayors to
Mahauoy City yestorday afternoon and
captured them. They wero Georgo Rut
conis. John Walczulous, Jacob Melcfsky and
Peter Ilrojolofsky, all Poles. They sont their
household goods to Middlcport on wagons and
left town via tho Lakesido Railway with tho
intention of taking a P. & R, train at Maha-
noy City for Middleport. ISutconis paid tho
taxes and costs, but tho others are confined in
tho lockup at Mahanoy City.

To Muko tho Surface Secure.
Three blocks of houses belonging to tho
Lehigh Valloy Coal Company havo been
standing empty for several mouths at Lost
Creek, on account of tho danger of a cave-in
at Packer colliery No. 2. Tho company havo
commenced work to mako tho surface sccuro
by erecting a plant on tho premises by which
threo eight-inch holos will bo drilled by a
portablo steam drill through which culm will
bo washed from Packer colliery No. 2
breaker, suilicient to fill tho opening bolow,
which is about 130 leot wide by 70 loot High.
In this way the surface will be mado safe,
and tho houus can be occupied.

Tho deed was committed In an outuouse. it
was supposed that Mr. Schreller deliberately
plannod tho suicide. Ho placed a shot gun
against his bide aud discharged It hy pushing
tho trigger with a 6tick of wood that was
found lying near by, Inlllcting a wound 2J
inches in diameter in his left side. He was
U0 years of ago and a widower with two sons
and a daughter. Ill houlth is supposod to bo
tho cause.

three Italians, John D. Napolo, Louis Folmo
aud Anthony Chada, who wero found guilty

A movement is on foot in Shamokln to
revoke tho commissions of all constables
who attend prizo fights and other unlawful
exhibitions. They claim that theso olllcers
aro attending such sports and that they do
nothing to prevent tho allairs.

A deal has just been consummated hy
which tho Philadelphia & Heading Coal &
Iron Company will take tho entire product
of the lioyal Oak colliery, at Shamokln. It
will go into effect to-morrow. This deal
means a great deal for not only tho owners
of thocolliciy, but to that town, as it will
necessitate tho enlargement of the breaker
to moro than again its size, thus giving a
great many moro men and boys employment.
H. A. Swalm Departs.
H. A. Swalm left last night with his
family for Mahanoy City, whero thoy re
mained with relatives until this morning,
when they left for Philadelphia and will
locate there. Mr. Swalm will connect him
self with tho Gold Medal File Company,
20th street and Allegheny avenue, Philadel
phia. Mr. Swalm was engaged In tho tailor
ing business in this town for tho past 10
years. During his long resldenco hero Mr.
Swalm was always an exemplary, enterpris
ing and progressive citizen, and with his
family mado a largo circlo of friends who
deeply regret their departure
The Williams Funeral.
Tho funeral of tho late Thomas LI. Will
iams will hike place at 2 o'clock to-morrow
afternoon and tho services will bo held in tho
Welsh Baptist church, of town, instead of
tho family residenco at Maplo Hill.
A ltrlef Scrimmage.
Const-iblo Jack Dando evicted William Rico
from a houso owned by Georgo Jones, on
West Coal street, this morning and had quite
an experienco while doing so. William
Montalawicz, Kice's brother-in-law inter
fered. A scrimmage followed and Dando
brought it to a close by rapping Montalawicz
on tho head with his inaco and knockiug him
down. No arrest was made.

Tiro at Girardvillo.
A fire broke out in tho dwelling occupied
by Robert Dillon, at Girardvillo, shortly
after noon to-day. Tho property is owned
by Patrick Ford, and situated in the rear of
tho American Houso. Tho firo was caused
by a defective Hue, and tho damage amounts
to about $000. Miss Annio . Dillon was over
come by the smoko and had to ho carried
from tho building.
Accident at Maple Hill.
Ail accident occurred at Maplo Hill colliery
this afternoon by which Michael Kehac was
terribly burned about tho faco hy a prema
ture explosion. Ho was removed to tho
Miners' hospital.
