1 ugltlvos who havo reached this city
from Loon, tho old capltnl of Nicaragua,

Thoy havo tho advantage of possessing

This means almost half tho battlo won,
for Masaya will undoubtedly follow tho

Important commercial Interests than any
other city of Nicaragua. Besides, it Is tho
eastern port ot Lako Nicaragua and tho
stopping placo of tho steamers which cross
tho lnko to Fort ban Carlos, at tho mouth
of tho San.Junn river, by which wntcrway

likely havo turned tho tldo against tho

Thon, ngaln, tho support of tho Con
servatives of Granada, who aro in tho ma

port. Thoy telegraphed to tho president
yesterday offering him tho sum of $1,000,
000 with which to equip tho troops bolng
hurriedly enrolled to derond tho capital
against tho Leonlsts and their clorlcal
supporters. The offor was promptly ac

wild with warllko enthusiasm. Tho mili

Tno soldiers of Nicaragua go barefooted,

Consequently tho Qxpouso of putting a

New Yoiiic, Fob. 28. Tho club homo of
the New York Yacht club was absolutely
packed last night with yachtsmen and
j-neht owners who were anxious to testify
by their presonco that tho Dunraven-Defender
case should bo sottled onco and for
nil, Ufto tho tlmo of meeting no direct
apology or notification of Intended re
signation had been rccelvod by any club
olllocr from Lord Dunrnvcn. It was ru
mored thnt a letter embodying n resigna
tion was on Its way from tho doubly do
tcatod owner of Vnlkyrlo, but It was not
in ovldenco when tho meeting was called
to order by Commodore Drown.
As soon as tho meeting was called to
order by Commodore K. Jf. Brown. Cap
tain Lewis Cass Ledynrd requested that
his motion, calling for tho resignation of
Lord Dunraven from tho Now York Ynoht
club, which ho proposed two weoks ngo,
T.OItn WTNttAVKtf.
should ho withdrawn. Tho request was
granted unanimously. Captain Ledyard
then claimed that under chapter 21 of tho
bylaws of tho club Lord Duiiravon's actions
should bo summarily dealt with. This by
law reads as follows:
"In enso of an occurrcnco Injurious to
tho welfare of tho club, tho name orunnios
of any member or mombers Implicated
thoreln may bo removed from tho list of
mombers by a voto of tho majority of tho
yachts represented at any general or
special meeting."
Captain Ledynrd thon offorod n pream
ble and resolutions, which nro lu sub-
stnnco as follows:
Tho Earl of Dunraven, nn honorary
mombcr of this club, hns publicly charged
foul play on tho part of tho Defender, In
the recent races for tho America's cup, of
such a naturoas nocossarlly Implicate tho
managing owners of tho vossol.
"Tho chnrgo has been investigated by a
commission of tho highest character, which
has proceeded judicially, and beforo which
Lord Dunraven has appeared and given
his own nnd other testimony, nnd has been
hoard in person and by counsel. Tho com
mlsHlon lias unanimously decided thnt tho
chnrgo was falso; thnt It was not merely
unproved, but was alllrinntivcly disproved
by competent and uncontradictory evi
dence, leaving no possibility of doubt.
'Tho commission has also found that
tho facts upon which Lord Dtinrnvou acted,
nccording to his own statement, furnished
no justification for maklugsuch a chungo.
"It furthor appears that In print nnd in
public speech Lord Dunravon has sought
to justify tho making of tho chargn by nu
merous misrepresentations of fact. Ho has
been forced himself to admit tho untruth
of most of these, yot ho stubbornly refuses
to rotract tho Injurious Inferences drawn
from them.
"Tho representatives of this club en
gagod In tho International yacht races
with Lord Dunravon, as tho representa
tive of Kngllsh yachtsmen, upon tho foot
ing of mutual confidence ami honor. Ho
has roqulted their courtesy and conlldonco
by distrust, suspicion, unfounded Imputa
tions of fraud anil a rof usal of reparation.
By his course ho has forfeited the high es
teem which led to his election ns an hon
orary mcmbor of this club.
"Theroforo bo It resolved, that tho privi
leges of honorary membership heretofore
oxtonded to tho Karl of Dunravon aro
horoby withdrawn, and thnt his name bo
romovod from tho list ot honorary mom
borsof tho club."
In introducing tho resolution Hear
Commodore Ledynrd said:
"Lord Dunravon Is still earning, still
hodglng, still ovadlng nnd still Insisting
that lie saw wuu ms eyes wnnt wo know
ho never did seo, as has been conclusively
proveu. i uuniw innii cms courso Has ueon
such that It is duo to tho dignity and self-
respect of this club that action shall bo
taken which will leavo no room for doubt
as to to tho nttltudo of tho club."
When Mr. Ledynrd had dono eponklng
ho was greeted with wild cheers and crlos
of "bravo," "bravo." As soon ns quiet
was restored Commodoro Brown put the
resolution to tho forty yacht owners pres
ent, all of whom, hut ono, nnswerlng In
tho nlllrmatlvo. Tho only dissenting voto
was east by Chester E, Monroo, owner of
tho sloop yacht Orlva.
Whon tho rosult was nnnounccd tho
yells of tho club members could bo heard
blocks away, and whon it was understood
that Dunrnvon's uimio was no longer on
the roll of tho club overy membor, with
the ono noted exception, expressed him
self as being perfectly sntislled thnt tho
rulo of tho majority was In ovory way
right nnd desorvod.
Ex-Commodoro James D. Smith, in re
ply to the query of n representative of tho
Associated 1'ress, said: "Whnt do 1 think
of it? Why, It is the most just and satis
factory decision thnt was over arrived nt
