Soon after Powers and Cnlnon caused h's arrest, alleging that ho Illegally collected and appropriated money due tlio company. Ho Is now tinder $1,000 bail. Moses now alleges that after the arrest Powers and Culnon wroto to ono M. Smcgclsky telling him to send his check for goods direct to tho company, as Moses bad been arrested for stealing. It is also alleged that tlio parties also wroto to ono SI. Tho committee appointed by tho Borough Council of Mahanoy City nppearcd beforo Judgo Rcchtcl yesterday and presented tho resolutions adopted by that body favoring tho granting of licenses of tho Kalor Brew ing Company that have been remonstrated against. Judgo Ilcchtol stated that thcro was uncontradicted testimony of violation of the law against somo of tho applicants; that ho was a sworn olllcer, and that the law lormus mo court doing just wnat they were prayed to do. "Wo feel very keenly tho position wo aro placed in," continued the court, "I have a personal acquaintance with a numbor of the petitioners and liavo the greatest respect lor them, but In overv case but ono, (Quirk) the applicants charged with violation of tho law, failed to take tlio stand to deny tho allegations; there is uncon tradicted evidence of selling liquor on Sun day and to minors." Tho court concluded that it despised attempts to blackmail, and denounced It as infamous, but intimated that under tho testimony tho court s duty was plain, and after a consultation with Judgo Pershing a decision will bo rendered. Tho Lakcsido hotel application was also heard, for which Richard F. Coogan, tlio present tenant, and Loren E, Clark aro rival applicants. Exceptions have .been filed against both. M. M. Burke, Esq., rep resented Coogan and stated that his client took possession of tho houso two ycara ago at the request of tho Lakcsido Land and Improvement Co.; that ho put improve mcnts on tho houio costing $800 or $000, and that all they ask is that he bo granted tho license, and that ho will then soil; this in order that ho may havo an opportunity to realize su Indent funds for tho money ho has expended.
